The photographer we want provides no contract or receipt. This seems problematic to me as they could up prices or just not show up to my wedding and I dont think id be able to claim from my wedding insurance because I don't have a contract with the photographer. What do you all think?

I agree with you. Presumably he/she is doing it 'off the books' therefore doesn't want to supply these. You will have no comeback through insurance if you have no proof.

I would be very sceptical because if they go bust before your wedding, you lose out on your deposit or whatever you have paid as it is not covered with your insurance. Be careful and ask them any questions you have :)

I wouldn't trust anyone who doesn't provide a contract, invoice or receipt

Don’t trust them! Any business will do a contract and a receipt! Even if they just email you an agreement at least you have it in writing, if they refuse to do that then it sounds really dodgy! Go careful, it’s your big day!! Xx

I’d ask for a contract and invoice/ receipts if they don’t provide it they aren’t running a reliable business

Any photography or videographer worth their salt will have a contract to cover both their backs and yours. I owned my own videography company and wouldnt touch anyone without a contract!

I wouldn't touch them to be honest. They are obviously not professional. I would go elsewhere.

DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM IF NO CONTRACT

Not worth the risk.

Cancel their services. I wouldn't trust that at all. Anyone reputable gives you a contract to protect both you and them so they can't get away with not giving you what you paid for and you can't accuse them of not providing something they said they would. I'd find someone else.

I'd stear clear. Someone mentioned earlier that they may want to do it off the books, but even so a contract and invoice could still be produced. Any business owner worth their salt would provide this regardless of what they are doing with their own accounts. There are so many choices in every service out there, it's not worth stressing over in my opinion x

You need a contract and receipt, just explain that to them.

No way would be my response to anyone not willing to provide both. They have to if they have a legal business and if they aren't willing to do so you need to wonder why.

Have you asked them to provide one? How established is their business?

Personally I have yet to get couples to sign a contract (only because I'm super flexible and everything is still agreed in writing via email), but I at least invoice the couple!

Don't use them, I'd be very suspicious as to why theirs no contract nor a receipt, please avoid for your own safety u don't want to be here in a few mths saying they've hiked the prices or you haven't received your pictures as you have no proof you even used them.

ALWAYS book a professionally qualified photographer. Master photographers association (MPA) or British Institute of photographers (BIPP) rules of membership we have to have public liability insurance and carry out our business in a professional manner.
You also have re-course and arbitration if something goes wrong.
