Hi, we just booked our wedding for 2020. The venue is 6300 this year but they want to charge us for the 2020 price which is 7400 ... have other people secured the current price when booking a venue?

Hi we have :)

Sounds like venues are getting wise to the plan of booking this year for x amount of years down the line. Try and haggle the price down a bit - say you'll meet half way? Or try and get some freebies thrown in - free toasting wine for example.

My venue haven't set prices for 2019 yet, so I got the 2018 rates (they book out every year so it probably makes little difference to them, lol)

No, we booked in 2016 for 2018 and are paying the 2018 price as that's the cost for that year. Most couples book a year or more in advance so most venues will charge you the price for the year you are getting married. I was debating getting married in 2019 to give us longer to save but then my fiancé pointed out that venue costs will go up anyway so wouldn't make a difference.

UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We booked in 2015 and paid 2016 prices, but then they did say that the prices go up by so much each year, so we were prepared

We booked in 2017 for 2018 and got current prices and 25% off too I'm a great negotiator

Mine is booked for 2019 and we got the price that it is now for the venue, photographer, wedding car etc. Think it depends on the venue though as we did look at one place and they were charging us the 2019 prices

My venue although I haven't booked just yet will honour 2017 prices even though the wedding won't be until 2020 x

We booked this year for 2019, at this year’s price

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We secured the price for the year we booked as we booked before they had set the prices for the following year...think that's pretty standard, but if they have already set prices for the next year then I can see why they'd want to charge you for that instead.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

Why would you expect to pay the 2017 price, for 2020? Unless it’s not changed, the price for that year, is the price for that year. Some venues offer promotions, but that shouldn’t be expected as the norm.

We booked for 2020 and have 2017 prices. I think it depends on the venue to be honest

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We've booked for 2020 and had a slight increase on this year's price but definitely not the full price they'll be charging for later bookings

We booked in Oct 2016 for wedding on March 2017 and got £1000 off 2016 prices because it was so last minute :-) X

We secured a 17/18 priced package for 2019 🙂 which I am sure will save us a fair bit of money 😍

We have just booked for 2020 also and have been charged the prices that they are charging for this year xx

We booked and payed a 50% deposit to secure the booking for this years prices. If you pay a larger deposit they should be happy to value this years price.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

Our venue didn't have 2017-18 prices so they offered us the 2016 prices as a gesture of good will. We have booked for 2019 early this year. Shortly after we booked the price went to 2017 prices and they rolled out new contracts that said that you had to pay so much of it by a certain time frame.

Julia Sweetman
Julia Sweetman 29 Oct 2017

Yes. We booked for 2018 in 2016 but we secured 2016 rates which were a lot cheaper so your venue is odd as it’s not following the normal rules. X

We got our 2015 venue at 2014 price

Rosie Ingram
Rosie Chadley 29 Oct 2017

We’ve put down a deposit at the quoted price for 2019 at the time. The venue has since put their prices up for 2019 but we are only paying what we were quoted at the beginning for the venue hire.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We booked for 2019 got the 2017 price but that was part of a promotion.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

Our original venue was booked in 2016 and prices were held at the 2016 price saving us about a grand, everyone we have booked (all in 2016) have kept the price at the 2016 rate x

I booked my wedding in 2015 and they honoured that price when I got married last week

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

I've got 2017 prices on a 2019 wedding.
I also then got written confirmation of that.

Laura Passos
Laura Passos 29 Oct 2017

I got the 2017 rates and my wedding is in 2019 because luckily we booked it while they were making the new brochure so we didn't have to pay extra.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We booked in September 2016 for August 2018 and we paid 2018 prices. I think if they have a price list for the year you want to get married then they will charge you that price. As your wedding is quite a while off I would maybe see if they would throw in a few freebies since you're booking so far in advance but if not at leave you know you have plenty of time to save x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We get married 2020 and we're warned when we put the deposit down that we might have additional costs when it comes to the final payment due to increased rates. I was told it would only be couple hundred if that

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

My venue had different costs for different years.

Lizzy Carter

We're paying 2019 prices and everywhere else we viewed we're charging 2019 prices.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We be booked for Aug 2019 and been tquoted 2018 prices and been told prices may vary but by no more than 5% think it's very common as we got told this by all venues we looked at x

I booked in Feb this year for 2020 and am paying the exact same price :) they have a 3 year diary and are absolutely lovely!!

We booked April 2016 for August 2018 and got 2016 price. Sound like we were lucky.

Courtney Gallacher
Courtney Gallacher 29 Oct 2017

Yeah we booked in 2016 for 2019 and got 2016 prices but we knew the owner of the venue so that probably went in our favour, but our photographer, piper, band and celebrant have charged us the prices for when we booked and not the prices for our date

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

we booked in 2015 for 2017 and we got the 2015 prices xx

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

We chose our venue in sept 2016 and are paying 2016 prices. The wedding is august 2018. A week after we booked the wedding prices all went up but i dont think it goes up annually. I suppose every venue is different and its up to them if they honour it or not. Xx

We booked in 2016 and getting married in 2018 and payed 2016 price we also did our food tasting by a set date in 2016 and payed 2016 prices for the meal as we secured our meal options there and then with 2 choices for our guests . Also booked our venue decor with a company as they had a package deal on including photo booth and dance floor and as we booked in 2016 they honoured those prices despite getting married in 2018. From reading the other comments feeling very lucky now x

We booked in 2016 for 2018 and our venue said if we booked there and then they would Honour 2016 prices and also upgrade us to the penthouse suite on the wedding night. Ask them what they can do for you, they can only say no.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 29 Oct 2017

Booked in 2016 but have to pay 2018 prices x

Emma Raisborough
Emma Raisborough 30 Oct 2017

This is quite common - on average venue fees go up each year by about 3%. I think you would only be able to negotiate a deal if you are going out of season or if you are doing a weekday/Sunday wedding which are less popular.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 30 Oct 2017

Usually they hold the price of the year you book. Unless for example you have something like steak and price of beef might inflate so that might be a clause in the contract. But each venue is different but the biggest majority will hold their price

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 30 Oct 2017

They may be willing to reduce if you pay this year x

I have a special offer through December ladies . Nhs, police, fire service , military, council , council & teachers get 12% till December then 10% anytime as on our permanent discount scheme .

We also lock in prices for weddings years in advance other than shipping charges which may go up but the package price will stay the same on what your quoted unless you change to a style of flowers not included in the package x
