Hi fresh flowers are so expensive. Why don't you have artificial flowers :)

That's a huge amount!! When are you getting married. We are sourcing all our own flowers. This will make it much more affordable x

WOW! They must be fresh flowers. What about artificial for the tables etc but fresh for your bouquets. There are some fantastic deals on e-bay for artificial flowers.

Aimee Roberts

I'd definitely go for some artificial flowers to help bring the cost down, that is a lot of money to spend on flowers.

Emma Raisborough

Shop around - don't just get one quote from 1 supplier, you'll be surprised how much they vary. My flowers are coming to £1,200 and that covers 11 x tall table centrepieces, my shower bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, 5 buttonholes, 2 corsages, a pedestal arrangement and 8 x aisle bouquets which will be attached to the aisle chairs. Except for my bouquet which is mainly roses, my main flower is gypsophila (babys breath) which is generally used as a filler and is a lot cheaper. If you want fresh flowers try and go for flowers that are in season with your wedding as these will be cheaper than those out of season.

UKbride Administrator 27 Oct 2017

That's crazy. I paid around £500 for bouquet, 2 bridesmaids bouquets, 3 corsage, 8 buttonholes, top table piece, two aisle pieces and 8 centrepieces and that includes roses in the bouquets. Make sure to check out florists near your venue as that will keep "transport" costa down (we got married in the next county to where we lived and saved around £100-£150 getting flowers in the county of the wedding)

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Oct 2017

That's pretty steep!
It depends on the type of flowers you've asked for, if they're in season at the time of your wedding and if they're complex arrangements - get some other quotes, maybe cut down on the amount of flowers you need and discuss options of cheaper blooms that can be used to fill out the arrangements

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Oct 2017

Are you asking for out of season flowers? That pushes the budget way up. Ask what is similar, but in season.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Oct 2017

Instead of flowers put an extra bottle of wine on the tables and only have your own flowers/ bridesmaids done and get a different quote x

UKbride Administrator

I had a paper bouquet, my girls carried butterfly wands/boards, & we grew sweet peas for the tables/decorations & did them ourselves!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Oct 2017

That’s crazy! Where in the country are you? we are paying just over 600 for the lot. 120 guests so lots of decorations too - all our decorations are floral. All wild fresh flowers so no bouquet or button hole will look the same but all on the same theme so is bound to take the florist some time to put together. And that includes her coming to the venue to decorate it with the flowers herself! Deffo shop around!

The cost can vastly vary depending on the flowers you want and the time of year, as they may not be readily available. Get quotes from some different places and discuss what is in season at the time of your wedding. I wanted peonies but in March the cost would have been really high so went for roses instead.

I had 3 bridesmaid bouquets, mine, a flower girls wand, 8 button holes, 1 button hole on magnet for my mum and 8 table centerpieces for just under £300 including delivery. Buy 5 cheap glass vases from Ikea or a cheap shop buy food colouring or glass pebbles and cheap flowers from Aldi or lidl two days before and arrange them yourself! Keep in a cold room/garage/shed to stop flowering too soon! Delegate a bridesmaid or guest to take to venue before. My friend did this and it cost her £5 a table!

I’m a florist and I can tell you that for £1200 your venue would be smothered in flowers and your bridal bouquets huge! That’s a shocking price! Shop around don’t be put off by local florists who don’t have ‘designer’ in its name or awards because chances are they are just as good if not better x

I'm a florist, I don't know what you have ordered though or what's in your bouquet and centrepieces or time of year, or where you are, as London more expensive. But it seems a little high, but it does depend on above. And you can shop around. I hear brides that have been quoted ridiculous prices. x

As a florist I would just like to comment and share a few money saving tips. First of all you may have an expensive taste - particularly if you have used Pinterest images to show your florist. However please go back to your florist with your realistic budget and find out what you can achieve. Replace expensive luxury flowers with less expensive ones or foliage - you can have 3-4 gerberas or carnations for the price of one rose! Have you chosen flowers in season? Are you getting married at a peak time - Valentine's day? Look at hiring or buying your own containers for table centres and ask for the florist to fill them. Re-use top table flowers. Put vases on tables and use your bridesmaid bouquets? Use your table centres as gifts for your family. So many ways to creatively cut down. And artificial flowers are not necessarily cheaper unless you use the foam variety. Lots of luck and congratulations. Flowers by Marion

Get another quote! I paid less than half of that and had 4 bouquets (mine was huge) 20 button holes and a bigger one for the groom, jam jars filled with flowers for the tables, a create and 2 medium sized bark pots all filled with flowers for the top table, hire of a step ladder with more jam jars filled with flowers displayed on, hire of jugs to use the bridesmaids bouquets as decorations during the meal and hanging wicker heart. I think that's it. You can definetly get a cheaper quote than that! Good luck x

UKbride Administrator 27 Oct 2017

Definitely shop around. We saw lots £1000 but the florist we chose was wonderful; she made things to suit our budget and they were utterly gorgeous. Seasonal blooms will help to reduce the cost. We also had a 'floral meadow' piece to run along the front of our top table and it was in a few sections, so Rachel (our florist) suggested using one of the sections to dress the front of the table in the ceremony room before moving it to save some money. I cannot recommend Rachel enough, so if you are in Northamptonshire/ Rugby (she is based in Dunchurch), definitely look her up! Albetine Floral

I would get a couple of different quotes and speak to the florists and look at their work to build up a picture of what you are paying for. When you have found one you like, speak to them in detail about the quote - what does it include/exclude and if it is over budget, talk to them about your budget and ask them what they are able to do to fit in to your budget. Is there anything in particular that makes up a big element of the cost that could be reduced or compromised on? A good florist will work with you to provide flowers that you are happy with within your set budget (as long as this is realistic!). Decide what elements of the flowers are important and what can be compromised on. Florists will be able to suggest cheaper alternatives to many flowers and depending on what you want and how much you want a bit of flexibility as to what types of flowers you use might also help with the cost.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 27 Oct 2017

Shop around and tell florists what you want and the maximum you’re willing to spend (or go a bit lower than your maximum so if you still get pushed above your price then it’s not too bad)
Florist’s will either tell you they can’t help you or they will work within your budget.
That’s what I did and I have had two florists quoting prices that are much more reasonable.
I think it’s ridiculous that bridal bouquets smaller than £40 bouquets which I’ve bought for my mum on mother’s day can cost upwards of £100. Slap the word ‘bridal’ on something and it triples the price.
Be bold! It’s all a business at the end of the day and you can haggle.
