Did anyone get married in a registry office and go home for a bbq or something similar? If so, are you glad or do you regret it?

Hiya, my brother got married in a really nice registry office then we all went back to my sister-in-laws mums house and had a bbq party, they rented a marquee and apart from getting the cake made everybody chipped in with a bowl of something and a bottle of alcohol it was brilliant and we partied well into the night!

We get married next year and had planned to do this. Basing our figures on 70 people attending I found wonderful caterers but had a terrible time getting replies from people to supply garden furniture, i.e. picnic benches. When I worked out the cost, coupled with all the last minute running around we felt that another venue was more suitable and we are paying not a lot more but everything will be laid on. I will just be supplying the cake and the flower arrangements. If you have lots of family or people to help you and perhaps if you are a bit more laid back than I am then I think it would be fantastic. If you are a control freak and don't have reliable back up (i.e. people who don't work) then it could be stressful. If you go with that then I hope you have a wonderful time.

I got married 46 years ago - still going strong - had wedding reception In a posh hotel in Brighton UK - paid by my late Mum and I wore a white wedding frock ,which with my bridesmaid frocks had made by a wedding seamstress. It was a wonderful day, with no regrets what so ever.

me and my husband got married at the registry office. I don't regret that persay. I regret the people.
we had only 10 people including us at our wedding. all of who turned out not to take our wedding seriously because we got wed after a year of knowing each other.
my husband helped me get ready in the morning. I had no hair or makeup done and "girlfriend" didn't want to do it. we had no confetti thrown. no cards or gifts.
after we married we went home and sat there watching tv.

I'm glad I married him. and at the present time we are planning our wedding renewal. we are having a real wedding now. a joke ceremony on a field followed by a buffet reception with a live band and dj, photo booth a wedding cake and friends.

all for under £1500 =D

We got married in June. Myself, Husband 3 Children & 2 friends went down on a Saturday morning got married (in jeans ) & then went out to a local restaurant for Burgers & Milkshakes. Just the five of us then went home & sat in garden & played games & opened some of the lovely gifts from family & friends etc. My mum had decorated the outside of our house which was nice. Best day of my life and it was everything I could have asked for I'm so pleased we did it the way we did

We are getting married next year at a venue for the ceremony only then back to my parents for a bbq and party. I've got a big family so to have everyone at a venue cost loads. This way we can invite everyone we want there and it's more relaxed. I'm not going to regret it as it's the way I've always wanted it to be.

I've been toying with the idea of having an nice ceremony at a venue but then going to like a working man's club where I was thinking about hiring one or two of those food vans. You know like Street vendor style but it is only a thought

We got married last year at register office and had a party at my daughter's for close family and friends I wouldn't have changed it for anything and it cost less than a grand for everything. It is our 1st anniversary on Friday and people still say how amazing it was x

Getting married next year and we are planning on having a registry office and then home for a bbq, not having alot of people come as we only want close friends and family so it works out tonnes cheaper, making my own wedding cake too to save on costs it used to be a common thing years ago, making all the food the day before to allow marinades to soak in etc.
