My MOH really wants to get my hen do organised, which is great, I'm getting married May 2018. But I'm not sure what to do!! I don't want a night of drinking and going to a club, it just isn't my thing anymore. I like the idea of a long weekend away - a city break maybe - where I can do and see stuff. Then I thought this might be a bit expensive for everyone. Another option was a day/weekend of activities, like an escape room, quite fancy the harry potter one in London, perhaps the Ice Bar and good food somewhere, followed by some drinks! But could cost as much as a weekend away! If you have any other suggestions please share - the people coming are from around the country but mainly South, we are aged 30-40, and no spa breaks/afternoon teas/strippers as suggestions please!!! Thank you in advance

What about go ape or paintballing, something a bit more active. You could do a scavenger hunt, theres a few companies that set them up for you. Wine tasting. Or you could hire a cottage with a hot tub and have a long weekend away, i know theres a few on the broads that look nice. X

I've asked for a dance class. Something a bit fun and girly we can all do together. Looks like the favourite option with everyone is burlesque dancing.

Weekend away glamping and white water rafting, you can get good deals for 60.00
Also maybe a log cabin with the girls and a hot tub?

UKbride Administrator 17 Oct 2017

Ask what price is doable for those around. Never assume you know their price limit! You can get some nice little weekend breaks fairly cheaply if you shop about a bit. Get an idea together and see how many of those you want to invite can make it- and with enough notice some may happily pay more than you think.

We did Go Ape for mine. It was great fun, lots of laughs. We then spent the evening at home in onesies. We had a cocktail maker come and make us drinks and then continued drinking and playing games. Was perfect.

I really fancy doing something like this for mine. I live in the lakes so right on my doorstep. Maybe something near you?

We hired a barn for my friends hen do when I was maid of honour. We had private pool and spent the days swimming and cooking together (we hired an inflatable gladiator game for one day too) and the nights we made pizza and cocktails, watched films and played games! Was a lot of fun and very chilled! It was a huge 10 bed place and we paid 120 each including food shop

If people are given enough notice it shouldn’t be a problem. I’m getting married nov next year. My maid of honour has planned a weekend at Center Parcs for August

We’re taking our children to a pottery painting studio and going for a nice lunch - didn’t want my little girls to feel left out and I don’t do boozy or spa stuff so this is right up my street

I had a day of stuff and it was fab!! I was knackered by the evening though and felt a bit bad for people that just came out for the evening! We had an afternoon tea at a lovely tea shop! My mum and sister had made goodie bags for every one We had some bubbles there which was lush! Then we went cocktail making which was brilliant!!!! We all got quite piddled Then went to a cocktail bar and then had a meal Spent the night in a hotel with my sister and best friend

I have just booked a weekend in Madrid for £158 pp which includes flights from Bristol and a beautiful apartment. We used booking.com for the apartment and just booked flights. This is for 6 people and we are going May next year. If you shop around and look at flights now they are really cheap. Our flights were £58pp including the extra cost to all sit together.

How about something like centre parcs. Lots and lots of different activities to do.(inc spa if you fancied it) you can split the cost by sharing chalets and lodges. You can ether self cater or eat in the many restaurants.

You could always look at Groupon or Woucher, they do some wonderful things like spa days which might suit everyone. A nice relaxing day for all before the wedding xx Good luck with whatever you choose xx

Hire a house for a weekend, the company will have offers on activities and a chef for an evening or games to play etc. The house will have things like a jacuzzi etc. Try that.

We did a mini-cruise to Bruges for mine. Was around £100 each, including breakfast and dinner both ways, and then whatever spend while we were there. Some just stayed in a pub we found and others went sightseeing x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 17 Oct 2017

Glamping is a reasonable priced weekend away. Depending where you choose would depend on different activities you could do, like go ape or bbqs and music and drinks at the glamping site, or explore g the countryside, having lunch/dinner in a nice nearby country pub

I had a big house booked, we had a race night (DVD) on the first night, did some activities during the day, the house had a pool, and we had a party in the house on the second night. Perfect for me. Affordable too as not going out out!

For mine we stayed at Highgate Accommodation in Newtown Powys (north Wales). It's a big barn that sleeps 20 people and if you fill it it's £50 per person for the whole weekend.
Then you can organise activities etc or just have a relaxing weekend at the barn. We did things like cocktail making (supplied a mix of drinks and told everyone to get creative with what they make) had external caterers come in and cook on the Saturday evening, Friday evening everyone brought a buffet dish so there was no cooking needed. We also hired in hot tubs so on the Saturday in the day some went for a walk in the nice countryside, others relaxed reading etc and others used the hot tubs. I had the best weekend and it was also really reasonably priced for everyone. Not a stripper or tacky hen do stuff in sight! We also had a mix of ages from my youngest bridesmaid who was 16 to my Nan who's in her 70s so it's perfect for all x

I have booked a big house in Wales for 20 for 3 nights, works out at £125 per person but that will also cover for some food and some spirits for cocktails. We have a pool and a bar area in the house, having a pool party one of the nights but mainly just chilling, everyone can do their own thing if they want. x

My friend was looking into a medieval banquet. She looked at one at Lumley castle in the north east was only £35pp. But they do them all over the country. It's something different and they look amazing! Very Elizabethan and medieval and banquets looks amazing. Amazing food and drink and entertainment. Stay over as well in a castle I think. Something very different.

I am a photographer with a studio based in Whitstable, and I’ve recently launched a ‘hen do’ photo shoot offer, it would be a fun day for everyone, you can have a make up artist and hair stylist (or bring your own and you can combine the hair and make up trials maybe?) there will be Prosecco / wine available and we have an all-day shoot in the studio. You would get all the digital images in an online gallery for everyone to view and download included in the shoot price - All agreed upfront and absolutely no hard sales as I hate that!! Prints extra if you wish. Plus you could combine this with an overnight stay in Whitstable so you can have fish and chips on the beach too! I would genuinely be interested in your feedback in the idea if you can spare a second to comment please as I have just launched this idea Plus if you choose Whitstable I can help with links for acomodation and other services as most of us are small business owners down here

My MoH & Chief Bridesmaid organised a surprise hen for me. They blindfolded me, put me in a car and took me Centre Parcs (there was 8 of us in total). It was amazing. We had dinner and hen party games in the villa on the Friday. A day of activities on the Saturday and then spa on the Sunday. Obviously you wouldn't have to do exactly what we did, as there's loads of things to do and choose from. It was the best hen I could have wished for, as I'm not a big night out kind of person

My MOH organized a 3 night break away about hour and half away. Cottage, hot tub, sauna, gardens, beautiful, there was 8 of us! First full day we went laser tag, best activity ever! That night we went into town and did our public drunken night. Then on the other full day we went white water rafting, it was amazing, beautiful and memorable, we had a night in the hot tub till early hours with music and drinks, we had a pj night with games and hen do bits. It cost 250 per person, that included money to do a full food shop and mixed drinks and goodies and junk food, also £130 off the overall cost of the meal on the night out.
The best time with my girls, I'll never forget it. Just perfect! X

I'm not a massive party animal I like a good boogy but wasn't fussed for my hen do my girls organised a complete surprise even right up to the day I still had no idea where I was going and I went to Paris we did all The touristy things one day and then Disney land the next it was the most amazing hen do and there was an age range from 25-45 everything was booked in advance they knew an exact price and kept to it the only thing we needed was a little spending money depending on what your friends are like but I know some I know would blow £100-200 on just a night out whereas if planned carefully and with plenty of research you could do a weekend away x

I've discussed this with my MOH as I don't want the whole.stripper, wearing sashes thing. So we're going paintballing or go carting. We are aged between 20-45 so should be fun. Then a meal with mothers and out for a few drinks.

Ria Vickers

Thank you for all your suggestions, there are some really cool ideas, which I may still go for, but I think I've decided I quite fancy going to Venice during Carnival in February! Depending on what people can afford and then maybe afternoon tea & bubbles on a London bus to include some of the family!!

I'm not having one, rather stay in with my dog! But there are some great things you can do, you can do the crystal maze, that's what my htb is doing. I am doing a similar thing - we are going to go for afternoon tea and then do an escape room (really want to do the harry potter as well but I think my group is too large for it!). Then we will go out for drinks in the evening (not a club). I'm hoping it will be a nice chilled day!
