I'm not same sex couple, but I know same sex couples can have a marriage certificate or a civil partnership, it's entirely your choice. You can have a marriage certificate and have a civil ceremony the same as heterosexual couples. Hope this helps :)

Also, you can book your registrar from the registry office in the county your getting married, I think this can only be done 12 months before or later, but it has to be done around 6-8 weeks before the wedding to make sure the paperwork has gone through :)
