I will be doing one as part of my wedding next year and have witnessed a few friends of mine use them in their weddings. I love them as they are really symbolic ❤️❤️

My brother did after the official legal ceremony.
They had picked tartan that represented each of their clans. A bridesmaid stood in each post of north, east, south and west holding a burning candle. The maid of honour read out the words and they were in the middle of candles on the ground, bridesmaids around them and then the rest of us around the outside. It was very personal and special for them

We had one for our wedding. All the guests loved it and we found it a very special and unique ceremony

I did at mine. I had a humanist wedding and we tied a piece of tartan and a piece of Indian sari to signify our two cultures coming together. Recently we had a naming day for our son and the humanist who did our wedding did my son’s ceremony. We untied the knot and re tied it adding in a baby blue ribbon x

A Handfasting is an ancient Celtic tradition from where "tying the knot" is derived. The couple choose cords or ribbons in colour meanings that are significant to them and their hands are tied during the ceremony. For a full Handfasting the four elements of air, fire, earth and water are called upon to bring blessings onto the couple. It is a beautiful ceremony and is usually held in an outdoor venue - this Saturday I will be in Cumbria by a stream with trees nearby and the mountains and lakes as a backdrop for a ceremony. If you have any questions please get in touch on here, by PM or via www.tulipscelebrancy.com

Yes - I have done it. We did it a couple of years ago & we also jumped the broom. It was brilliant. We had a Humanist Commitment Ceremony. Our hands were tied with ribbons of purple and gold. Our Celebrant wa amazing and personalized the service with poetry. We jumped the broom as I said. It was lovely and everyone who attended really had a lovely time. I had handmaidens and we exchanged gifts as opposed to the traditional rings

We had a handfasting as part of our humanist wedding. I had a piece of my wedding dress taken from when alterations where done and the leftover tartan from when his kilt was made and both were used to tie our knot. We chose to do this because wedding rings will inevitably come off for various reasons, illness, painting, cleaning, etc but the knot will always be tied and never come undone. My celebrant pinned the knot to my bouquet and it is still there and will be on display in my home once we have decorated xx

We had a handfasting ceremony at Glastonbury festival before we got married. It was really emotional for us and our friends there with us. It incorporated all of the things that we think are special as a couple. I'd recommend anyone who was thinking about having a handfasting to do it if you need any info on the ceremony itself and what's involved let me know, i'd happy to help x

I had a handfasting and putting sand together. If you look at humanist ceremony ideas, there are loads of lovely ideas. x

We had 'wishing on the rings' our guests passed a jar full of dandelions wishes and our rings and each made a wish for our marriage, by the time we were ready to have the rings everyone had made a wish for our future and we got some fab photos of everyone blowing their dandelion wishes away.
