In some religions and cultures common practice . Legal wedding in registry office then maybe a blessing and religious ceremony followed by a reception another day

I had my baby 7 weeks early and ended up getting married two weeks after she was born instead of being pregnant!! I cancelled the reception and everything and we have just had it 4 months later

I had a small family wedding on a friday then a larger reception saturday for friends and workmates, got to wear my dress twice and less tiring.

My brother & sister-in-law did this. Had legal ceremony in registry office, just them & the 4 parents during week then had whole weekend reception with a celebrant doing another ceremony - worked brilliantly. Was at a converted barn with farmland - they were able to invite loads of friends and some people brought campervans etc to stay over, had a real fun festival vibe!

There is a venue local to us with no license but you can have a blessing in their barn so you have to do the illegal marriage before then blessing and reception.

I havn't but lots of people do. I suggested it to H2B as it is much cheaper just to do legal formalities with a couple and two witnesses but he wouldn't have it as said families need to be involved.

Me and my husband had a small intimate wedding registry with close friends and family, followed by a small house/garden party to celebrate straight after. Then a month later we had a traditional wedding reception with 250 guests. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I was able to get married in my home town, where my parents and my husbands parents were married, and still have the big Turkish wedding I always dreamt of

I did when I got married. We got married on the Tuesday in a registry office in London with just family no then we had the reception on the Saturday with the rest of our friends and family.
