I would like to get married to my oh of 12 years. The problem is I don't have much money. My budget is approx £300. Does anyone have any tips on how to have a lovely wedding but basic.

Hi Sorry but it will cost more than this just for a civil ceremony, good luck though :)

ebay, shop around, make your own stuff, try charity shops, get family involved have a crafts day, my only thing I would say is price up cost of the registrar as ours is nearly £500 as were getting married in a venue so defiantly something to check as that could be a huge part of your budget gone :) x

The registrar might be more than that, we are getting married at Basingstoke Registry Office and paying £575 for that. Once you sort the registry bit I think a buffet at home can be really nice, with stuff bought from Costco etc. You can even get your wedding cake in Costco. Last year I got a huuuge, white fruit cake and decorated it myself for a birthday. I'd also recommend Poundland as they have some lovely table decorations and eBay for stuff like lanterns, hanging bits etc. Good luck xx

You do not have to pay a fortune for a registry office wedding if there are no more than 4 people. I believe each county has at least one registry office that can do this type of wedding (in Hertfordshire it is Hatfield). I think it cost less than £100. It would be advisable to phone the registrars office and enquire. Then with the official bit out of the way you could have a meal or party elsewhere, maybe a BBQ where people club in and bring stuff. Good luck

My local registry office will charge £35 each for formal notice for you both and £46 for a basic vows only service with 2 witnesses, or £180 for a full service with music and more guests. Then maybe a romantic meal for 2 at your fave pub/restaurant?

Wow Nicola! Where do you live that the full service with music can be done for £180? Where we are is almost £500 in addition the the £35 each for notice of marriage. :o

I think it may cost more than this just for the registrar as ours is almost £600. If you are wanting to invite guests then you could look at hiring a hall and asking people to bring a dish towards the buffet. A lot of high street stores sell wedding dresses, home Bargains has a wedding section for decorations.
