Hi ladies. I'm getting married in May 2019. My husband to be and myself are having a church wedding and we live together in the same parish. However, we are getting married in a church in a different parish... I've tried doing some research into the process of getting wedding banns read prior to ceremony, but could anyone explain the process of what I need to do and when please? Is it straightforward? I'm getting confused and worried about it. Thanks so much!

Hi the Church you are getting married in will have the banns read the 3 Sundays before your wedding, you will have to inform the Church in your Parish when and where you are getting married for the banns to read there too :)

I wasn't told I had to attend the church when the banns are read. The vicar marrying you will inform other churches if banns need reading out elsewhere. This is what I was told anyway.

There may also be a charge for both of you to be married in a different parish, there is here.

You don't have to attend but they like you to attend at least once. You have to pay for the bands to be read in both parishes. Speak to the church your getting married in they should be able to help xxxx

I'm getting married this Saturday out of parish so I booked my church then contacted the church in my local parish. They took some details & then delivered the form for us to complete. When we took it back. We paid £41 for the banns to be read out although we never had to attend church at our local parish but did where we are getting married xx

I was told we have to pay for both churches to read them and it can't be more than 3 months before the wedding date and they like you to attend one of them at either church I think if that helps

Hiya. I'm getting married in November 2018 and have the same situation.
So, we have to have our banns read in our parish for 3 Sundays (we have this booked for September 2018), on the last Sunday you buy a certificate for £41 that you take to the church you are getting married where they read your Banns again xx

You have to have the banns read in your parish church and in the church you plan to get married in. Also the church you get married in will likely want you to have some sort of 'tie' to that particular church.

If you don't produce the correct certificate from your local church to the church you are getting married in the vicar cannot perform the full marriage ceremony but can perform another type of ceremony. X

You'll need to speak with the vicar for the church you wish to marry in as they are all different. We are marrying by qualifying connection, which meant we needed to attend services at least once a month for 6 months (and our church is 7 hours away from where we live). Once the vicar is happy you have that connection they will apply for a marriage licence so you can marry there. The banns will need to be read in both your home parish, and the church you marry in. As soon as you have the banns certificate (from your home parish, which is usually available straight after the third time of reading), you need to get it to the vicar of the church you are marrying in or you cannot get married!

Please don't worry , ask the vicar for help & ask them to explain it to you , it's 3 Sunday's before you get married ....& in the end we were only present for 1 Sunday as we got so hectic planning the wedding that we had hardly any free time !! .... Ask the vicar to email you reminders or their church admin as life does get hectic & easy to forget !!!!
Warm wishes , love Sarah x

We got married outside our parishes and got married under licence from the Archbishop of Canterbury. the vicar at the church where we married sorted out the forms and we had to go to Westminster Abbey to swear and oath to get married. Another way to consider.

You need to have your banns read in your parish church where you live and in the church where you're getting married. You will need a special certificate from the church your not marrying in. I found this tricky as well however I've contacted both churches and they've helped amazingly. Contact your vicars xx

best advice: speak to the vicar at the church you want to get married in. He will know exactly what you need to do
