Hi everyone! My bridesmaids and I (there's 6 of us) are all of different shades, black, white and mixed race. Will make up artists be able to accomodate all of our skin tones? Hair is the same problem. We range from dreadlocks, relaxed black hair, curly afro and long and medium blonde and brunette hair. I want to be able to get their hair and make up (and mine) done professionally but this seems a nightmare. Has anyone encountered something similar??

Your best bet is to ask different professionals you may gend up having to have more than on person do it x

I think it will be doable especially with make up. Hair may be a bit tricky as you may need someone who is specialised in Afro hair. Just do research and hair trials it will be all good x

I was bridesmaid at a wedding not so long ago and we all had different hair, skin tones and the hair dresser and make up artist did amazing with us, one of the other bridesmaids had really corse black curly hair and they did fantastic with her, do your research that's all I can say you'll find someone

A good makeup artist should be able to cater for all shades of skin

You will need 2 people on make up and 2 people in hair for that many people anyway unless you want the first person to be ready 5 hours early. So it shouldn't be too hard to find 2 different people to cater for all your needs. Have fun xx

I'd have some who specialises in afro hair tbh.. I don't think it matter with make up tho..

MUA's are used to different skin, it's their job. If you're worried, ask them upfront.

Hair, you'll want someone used to each hair type. Caucasian hair is easy to work with compared to Afro hair, and of course dreads will need special treatment too so they're not damaged with styling. But again, ask!

I'd recommend you get hairdressers who specialise in the Afro-Carribean texture hair. It's vastly different to European texture. Perhaps your ladies can make their own suggestions as presumably they have their own. MUAs,I'd make it clear about skin tones and do not skip the trials

Hi if your hairdresser and make-up artists are fully trained they should be able to do it :)

As a hairdresser I would recommend getting someone who specialises in afro hair. As afro hair is not included in the standard training x

As a black woman I will say that your best bet is to hire people that can do black hair and black skin. Although an increasing number of white MUAs are able to work with various skin tones I'm afraid hairdressers are still very far behind. All trained hairdressers can do European hair but only those who explicitly state they can do black hair will be able to do it. If you're looking for one hairdresser for everyone they will have to be a black hairdresser.

Also, to anyone who describes black hair as 'difficult'. It's easy if you (care to) know how. Let's encourage white hairdressers to cater to everyone.

We was in the same situation, our make up artist was amazing, and my bridesmaid with dreadlocks had her hair done just before the wedding, we just put the flowers in on the day xxx

My sister had four bridesmaids, two of whom we mixed race and three had afro hair. She had one make up artist but two hairdressers, one general and one specifically for afro hair x

Afro Caribbean hair is a different qualification I'm a fully qualified hair stylist so I know the differences I know people trained in this area and those people don't touch anything but darker skinned people's hair. Laws and legislation of why they can't etc.
Id suggest someone who can do separate so a afro hairdresser and hairdresser x

Maybe ask your bridesmaids who they use on a regular basis... if they're local maybe they could do it... at least they'd know their hair style xx

Thanks Ladies. It's useful information. We have to leave for the church at 12 so it'd be useful to have 2 make up artists and hairdresser. Or else my girls (and mum) will be up from the crack of dawn to be ready!!!
