I have had the awful situation of informing 2 of my closest friends they are not going to be bridesmaids (of which they had just assumed they were) and they are now both very upset. I am hoping they will still join in with everything like the hen do etc but I'm worried they will just not come to the wedding at all or worse make a scene at the wedding! Has anyone else had to deal with this?

Hi lots of brides have to deal with this, they assumed it is their problem :)

They may be a bit upset initially, but as close friends they'll get over it. At the end of the day it is about what you and your future spouse want for your day, and your friends will realise this. But if you're really worried perhaps give them a different role on the day, like a reading or something.

I like Zoe's suggestion of giving them a different role on the day. Not everyone can be a bridesmaid.

Why they not if they are your closest friends ?

Why would they make a scene at the wedding? They will be upset to begin with but if you have good reason for them not being then I'm sure they will come round x
