The infamous wedding tax in full action right there ...

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Get quotes before you tell them it's for a wedding! They would charge that much for a party!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

I've not started looking at this part yet but I did ask one person and she gave me a fair price for both hair and makeup, I think you need to ask around a bit more x

It all depends, I would look around I got a quote from a girl who does hair and makeup, she quoted me 150 for me and 2 bridesmaids and that includes travel costs to my venue as well, try and see if you can find someone who does both means you don't have to pay two different people

Mine is £270 for myself and my moms hair and my makeup. This includes trials.

UKbride Administrator

I paid £45 makeup and £35 hair per person...my MUA is a pro and also does stuff for Tv/magazines and catwalk. My hairdresser is mobile but has worked in high end salons and hasn't been able to take on any new clients for about 3 years so they weren't amateurs by any means. I'd shop around a bit x

I work in a hairdressers and wedding hair is a form of art it has to last all day in all weathers so thats why it can be a little more for weddings x

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

I charge £60 for a bride £40 for a bridesmaid
Usually I charge £35 for makeup if it's not a wedding.
I charge more for weddings because I spend more time and use higher end products. For example a normal client for me takes 45 minutes. I would spend an hour and a half on a bride. I use products like charlotte Tilbury Magic cream on brides which is £180, but can't justify spending that on a normal client.
Also my standard training cost £4,000 for the course alone. Then there is my kit cost. And additional courses again which cost thousands. My class with Kim Kardashian's makeup artist cost nearly £1,000 alone.

I get married in two weeks and I'm paying £150 for my makeup. Because I'm using someone reputable and has extensive training.

Why? Because it costs money. They have to fund everything they use on you, there's upkeep on it too-cleaning, sanitising, replacing run out make up, and single use items. Then they have to pay for insurance, for themselves, and business use on their cars, plus petrol. They also like to earn a living, to eat, and pay bills. They will also have undergone expensive training, and have student loans to repay.

We are paying £650 that includes my hair and makeup trial.. and myself, my mum and 4 bridesmaids hair and makeup on he day!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Depends on who you use tbh.. mines costing £120 for hair and £100 for make up. Trials are £65 each. Bridesmaids are £50 per thing and £45 per trial.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Maybe try someone in training, they tend to be alot cheaper as they do it for the experience. College students especially are always looking for an opportunity to add to their portfolio.

Cause the word wedding is mentioned

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Mine was fantastic she did me plus my 2 bridesmaids h&m and my mum's hair. It came to £150, trials were separate but it was still reasonable, I did a lot of shopping round. Where in the country are You?
I'd definitely recommend mine :)
Good luck x

Mines 350 pounds just got me. For both hair and make up but you pay what you get. My friend paid 1000 pounds and she literally looked unbelievable and they spent whole day at wedding and did 3 make up changes in day. Good 7 hrs doing her make up in end. Pay for what you get. Make up costs a bomb anyway and want them to use the best

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Go to your regular hairdresser. She might charge extra but probably not much. I had a women who works for Boots No 7 do mine. She works as a make up artist on her days off. I was £50 for myself, one bridesmaid and my mum.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

£20 for my hair and 45 for make up, it pays to shop around

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Because of the training, supplies, travel costs, insurance etc. It takes a long time to work on a bridal party as it's got to last a whole day rather than a few hours for a night out/photo shoot which means high end products are used. They also need to earn a wage for themselves!

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

My hair was £25 and my make up was £15 :)

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Ive paid £130 for my hair inc a 2 hour trial and £125 for my makeup including trial.. if you want really good people itis expensive

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

i paid around £30 for make up n that was just buying it over the counter to do it myself id rather pay £30 odd for it to last me than pay way over the top for someone to use there own makeup supplies, apply it and not look natural at all. Was not stressfull me doing my own makeup and i could do it how i wanted etc as for hair my hairdresser charged just over £120 for trail, colour before and on the day so if i was you id shop around x

UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

People have to pay their bills that's why. You get what you pay for when it comes to make up. My MUA uses really high end products and none of it comes cheap. She works really hard and now has been forced to take deposits for every booking due to time wasters.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

I didn't pay anywhere near that much.

For six people (myself and bridesmaids) it was under £500 I believe. Frankly £200 for hair and make up is DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. It's never that much if you take the word wedding out of the occasion, actually tested that theory and the price doubled for certain things !

It may be better to get your own done and get her bridesmaids to do own hair and make up xx

Can anyone recommend hair and makeup for in Liverpool please? :)

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Hair and makeup for a night out is completely different to wedding make up. It has to last 12 hours, it has to look great in person and in pictures it has to be perfect. Same with hair. Brides are also much more demanding than regular clients as so much emotionally is invested in that one day. If you don't like the price keep shopping around

Stephanie Fernie

My make up artist is costing me £130 That's for 5 of us getting make up done on the day and 5 trials before, which is absolutely amazing 😍 and she is fantastic can't fault her with anything! Sometimes it's who you know....i would look around ask friends if they know make up artists and hair dressers that's what I did go on face book pages or even people who are at college and learning they would do your make up and hair alot cheaper just for experience, don't take the first ones you see that is alot of money but then sometimes you pay for what you get 💙 good luck and happy planning x

Find a local hairdresser who will do just as good a job at a fraction of.the cost.

UKbride Administrator
UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Thats the price of a good make up artist tbh. If you wanted just a tinted moisturiser and mascara it would be excessive but you get what you pay for these days. I paid cheap my first wedding and i looked a mess my original MUA from the salon was sacked and some one else had to fill in on the day it was a shambles. the wedding went down hill from that moment on. So beware ladies if you want to look a goddess check portfolios and expect a £200 ish price tag

UKbride Administrator 6 Sep 2017

Where r u based my mum recently renewed her wedding vows (full wedding) the Mua was £40 for my mum £30 each for bridesmaids and a £20 call out see the hair dresser was £18 for bridesmaids and my mum was £10 cause she has short hair and only needed or blow dried x

It is a good deal.. My sister had an mua and it cost her £150 including the trial. Bridesmaids were 65 each. She had loads of experience and was well worth the money.. What people have to remember with hair and make up, is all the tools they pay for.. Esp muas. Imagine their kit.. They'll have dozens of different brushes and sponges, ranging from about £12 to about £45 each, then foundations which are an average of £30 each. It's all high end stuff and they need alot of different shades etc for different looks and skin tones. A kit can easily be worth a good few thousand pounds.. Then there's the travel costs, the public liability insurance etc. Problem is nowadays people expect too much for too little xx

That's a good price. Im paying £150 for makeup on the day and £60 for a trial. Bridesmaids are £55 each. You defo get what you pay for. I had trials with 2 cheaper MUA and they were awful. My MUA is the best in the Business and i had to book her over 2 years in advance! x

Shop around. My mobile hairdresser is only charging me and my bridesmaids £20 each for our up-do's and my make-up artist £25 each £10 to come to the ceremony in case we need an emergency fix afterwards (if we've she'd a tear or two) before the photo's.

I had both my trial & make up on the day for £60 in total ...... My 2 girlfriends did 5 bridesmaids & 2 flower girls together , for free ........... My bridal hair was £85 on the day & she quoted £85 on top for the trial but I couldn't afford both , so just emailed a photo of how I wanted my hair done & paid for just the day instead .....

My wedding hair was £35, trial £10 and make up £15 all done to an exceptional high standard by professionals at my hair dresser. People who specialise in wedding hair and makeup up do charge a small fortune sadly, but definitely shop around as I feel £100, regardless of annas comment (which is a totally fair point!) is actually pretty disgusting lol xxx

My hair was £25 £15 for trial and my make up was free as my maid of honour is an mua. She still only charges £30 including lashes to do makeup for any occasion. I know others charge more but have never known anyone to charge that much. By the sounds of it as well it may depend on where you live? Xx
