10 Rustic Wedding Ideas for Brides on a Budget10 November 2017
Are you thinking of opting for a rustic wedding? Particularly if you’re holding your wedding in a barn, on a farm or in the countryside, a rustic wedding theme is the perfect choice to complement your venue. Rustic weddings are also great if you’re on a budget or want to have a go at some DIY decoration options, as there are so many different things you can do yourself to add to your rustic theme.
Here at UKbride, we’ve put together a list of rustic wedding ideas to give you some inspiration when it comes to planning your day.
A wooden wedding sign like the one pictured above is a really simple yet effective way to direct your guests during the festivities. Simply find a long stick or pole and wood off-cuts and chop them into the shape of arrows, then attach these to the stick. You’re free to write whatever you wish on them – things like ‘This way for dancing’ or ‘The ‘I Dos” are a sweet addition, or you can keep things simple as seen above.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rustic wedding that doesn’t feature wooden crates – they are so cheap and useful, and look great when styled properly. You can fill them with flowers for decoration, use them to house your cards and gifts, fill them with confetti or flip flops for when your guests’ feet are sore, or even use the base of the crate as a sign with the day’s agenda written on it, as seen in the above image. There are endless options – so I definitely suggest acquiring some if you’re having a rustic wedding!
Woodcut centrepieces are another must-have for rustic weddings. They can be used across all the tables with flowers and other small knick knacks on top, as well as to stand the cake on to really up the rustic factor.
Hay Bale Seating
Hay bale seating really lends itself to barn and countryside weddings, and is another really affordable option. Some companies offer hay bale and cover hire, or you can do it yourself to save even more money!
Glass Jars and Drink Dispensers
A great way to house your drinks of choice during your rustic wedding is to purchase some glass drink dispensers along with jam jars and pretty straws for your guests to drink from. Colourful beverages with fruit look brilliant in these, and you can then add labels as seen above to add a subtle rustic touch to the decor.
Watering Cans and Wheel Barrows
Watering cans and wheel barrows are some other great additions to a rustic wedding. These are super easy to get hold of and can add a really fun touch to a rustic theme. You can fill watering cans with flowers, wheel barrows with ice and bottled drinks, confetti or even your wedding favours.
Hessian accents are a must for rustic weddings – they really help to tie in the countryside/rustic vibe and work for so many different aspects. You can tie your bouquet with hessian and a ribbon, use it as a table runner, add it to your seating, or even house your favours in small hessian bags.
Naked Wedding Cakes
Naked wedding cakes are very on-trend right now, and are the perfect edible complement to a rustic wedding day. Place one on a wooden board (as mentioned above) and opt for muted shades of your colour theme for the sugar flowers. The great thing about this style of wedding cake is that it doesn’t matter if it looks messy, as it helps add to the feel of the cake. This means if you’re attempting to make your own wedding cake, this is a great option! Take a look at our blog post on making your own wedding cake for our tips and tricks. It wouldn’t be a rustic wedding without the addition of bunting, would it? Perfect for hanging from the ceiling of a barn wedding (as above), adorning the catering table with or, if you’re having an outdoor wedding, hanging from tree-to-tree, it helps to tie in the rustic vibe and comes in so many different patterns, colours, and even with ‘Just Married’ etc. emblazoned across.
