Cheap Wedding Videos

Lights, Camera... Disaster! The average wedding takes months of hard work, careful saving, and meticulous planning — so who wouldn't want to capture it on camera and re-live those precious moments again and again...? If you value your vows and want to avoid a faulty film of your dream day, follow UKbride’s top tips for acquiring a worthwhile cheap wedding video...

UKbride's expert cheap wedding video advice comes following the news that Essex couple Martin and Heidi Shubrook have won damages in a County Court against Sunderland cameraman turned conman Clayton Bennett.

The Shubrooks — who hired Bennett to film their wedding in July 2009 — were reduced to tears for all the wrong reasons after receiving the finished video documenting their nuptials.

“When it first came on it had pictures of people’s feet on the floor and then there was shots of people who weren’t even at our wedding”, said Martin, 34.

“During the day he went missing and our wedding co-ordinator had to chase him up and found him at another wedding”, he added.

“For part of it, the camera was left lying on the floor so half of the shot was grass, and people's heads were cut off.”

Mr Shubrook went on to describe how the pair had told guests not to bother bringing anything to record the day because they assumed they'd hired a 'professional' to produce their wedding video.

"I want the wider pubic to be aware of what happened to us. It is not right that this individual can take people's money and then not deliver.”

When UKbride contacted Bennett asking him to refute the claims surrounding the contemptible cheap wedding video, he failed to comment cutting our conversation short and hanging up the phone!

The 50-year-old — who is also reportedly trading under Lasting Impressions, Perfect Image, and We Photograph Your Weddings — has been ordered to pay £600 court costs and travel expenses by a Judge at Durham County Court.

In addition Bennett is currently facing trial accused of harrassing Mark Fry — his pregnant wife's ex-husband.

In light of this incident, we've compiled some simple steps for our lovely UKbride members! Just follow our six fool-proof 'P's' when choosing your wedding videographer...

Professionalism— your cameraman should have a professional kit, and will know how to interact with your guests and capture the atmosphere without getting in the way. Source a videographer with a known reputation, and make sure you get a confirmed quote for his/her services. Spot a professional from a salesman — a salesman will be eager to to know YOUR budget and what quotes you have already received, whereas a good videographer will know how much it costs to produce a high quality wedding video!

Presentation — Your videographer will be well presented and should be willing to adhere to the day’s dress code.

Previous work — Ask to see examples of other cheap wedding videos they’ve done. If they claim they haven’t got the rights there's probably something amiss.

Personable — Meet your cameraman prior to your wedding. He or she must be personable, and you should be able to get on well with them to ensure they understand your needs.

Part Time? Is it their full time occupation, or just a hobby? Although sideline videographers are likely to be fully qualified, bear in mind that shooting and editing is a fine art for a fully trained professional.

Picture — When you see previous examples of his/her work check the quality of the picture. If the camera is out of focus the image will be blurry, and you will be unable to pick out precise details such as the finery of the bride’s wedding dress. Another warning sign is long sequences where nothing happens.

Like anything, choosing your wedding videographer falls down to quality not quantity — no matter what the price of the package the calibre of both image and sound should be high. Check for the colours of dresses, skin tones, and landscapes in previous examples of their work. In addition make sure that the audio quality of their videos is up to scratch — this will be clearest in scenes of the speeches or the service. Ensure that he/she doesn’t overuse effects, and that they capture people’s faces, not their backs.

And finally…do not base your decision on cost alone, a cheap wedding video won't necessarily  be a good wedding video!
Good luck ladies! Relax, have fun, and put faith in your videographer!
