Information For The Grange Hampshire

All weddings are different at The Grange and we are proud of being able to create exceptional and bespoke experiences for people getting married. We try as hard as we can to limit the rules and maximise the help, so that you can make your wedding day your own - and trust that everyone involved will remember it for years to come, for all the right reasons.

The Grange is a venue quite unlike any other : it is not a blank canvas – there’s too much history in the walls for us to call ourselves that. But it’s not a finished product either. Its unique combination of elegantly distressed interiors and classically romantic surrounds creates a striking but relaxed setting that intensifies emotions and helps guests have a fabulous time. Every couple who has been married here tell us their wedding was as personal and special as they’d imagined. We’re here to provide all the energy, knowledge and support you need to navigate the unusual and exciting set of raw ingredients at your disposal. We don’t do conveyor belt or one-size-fits all packages, so you will be able to make personal decisions on everything from furniture hire to flowers.

Here's how it works :

The Grange
We offer the house on a dry hire basis and hold a licence for marriages. We include chairs and circular tables, have a fully functioning catering kitchen and allow access the day before to set up, exclusive hire on the day and access the day after to clear up – and we don’t charge corkage. We hold a licence for marriages – and there are a choice of 4 indoor rooms and 3 outside spaces in which to hold the marriage ceremony. The house is in the guardianship of English Heritage which means the grounds are open to the public daily, but they have given us a licence to close the site for 15 days per year for a variety of events. Realistically, this means we hold about 10 weddings annually. Having a select few weddings allows us to focus our time on making each one special and unique. We want you to have the wedding you want, one which reflects your personality.

Room uses
There are four ground floor rooms which can be configured as you wish but take a tour via our 3D map to get a true feel of the inside of the house. A marriage ceremony can take place in a one room – or even outside on the portico overlooking the lake - with dining and dancing taking place in the other rooms. The fourth room is smaller, so this is often used as a chill out space alongside the bar area. We don’t charge for the use of our chairs and circular tables, but if you want to have something different we are very happy for you to hire that in. The house acts as a natural sound barrier, so within our fee we allow music and bands until midnight. If you would like to extend beyond this time to 1am, we charge an additional £500.

Food
Our in-house caterer Becka Cooper is a master of bespoke menus. Whatever type of meal you’d like served throughout your time with us (whether that includes an informal dinner the night before the big day, a leisurely brunch the day after, or just the wedding breakfast itself), she’ll come up with generous, vibrant and unpretentious dishes based on seasonal ingredients from local producers. Becka is flexible and imaginative, understands what makes an exceptional food and drink experience, will work with you to make sure that the menu has your personal stamp and that every morsel served is food that you are truly proud of. You don’t have to use Becka but it’s worth a conversation with her as she cooks in the Grange all the time, has a great team of people - including bar staff - and knows all there is to know about working in this historic venue.

Partners we love to work with
At the Grange Hampshire, we don’t have ‘suppliers’. We have hand-picked partners who are as passionate about making your day fabulous as we are. They all offer something different and go above and beyond in everything they do - from florists to wedding planners - so do check them out on our website. We know that they’re great people to work with and they understand The Grange and its quirks. By all means if you have your heart set on someone else, let’s have a conversation, but please start your own search for partners on this pre-vetted list. We include the hire of a loo unit for the duration, which will be of suitable capacity to manage all your guests, but if you want to have something different (like a Shepherd’s hut) just let us know (this is will be at your own expense!).

Accommodation
On the Estate we have 3 properties which can sleep up to 25 guests. Abbotstone Farm House is a family home filled with beautiful furnishings sleeping up to 16 guests (or even a few more if you put children on airbeds!) which is best suited for the bride or groom’s family to relax the night before (and Becka can even cook you all supper if you want). Use the house as a backdrop for your wedding morning photos, either in the cosy drawing room or outside in the landscaped gardens. As a bonus, there’s a barn alongside the house which can seat up to 60 people and can be used for brunch the day after the wedding. The Clock Tower, sleeping 5, is located very close to the Grange and is ideal for the night of the wedding as a first stop honeymoon destination. Garden Cottage, a one-bedroomed converted barn, sleeping 2+2 can be used as an extension to Abbotstone Farm House due to its proximity. Beyond the Park there are various pubs and hotels including the Woolpack at Totford (1 mile away), the Holiday Inn at Morn Hill (5 miles away) and Lainston House in Winchester (10 miles away) to name but three. We have a special rate for our guests at these hotels. In addition, Alresford – our local town which is 3 miles away - has 2 hotels : The Swan and The Bell.
