What does everyone think? Gonna be sending out invites in the next few months so needed to choose one. Does it sound tacky to you? or do you think it sounds ok?

We are sending out this invitation
In hope you’ll join our celebration
But if a gift is your intention
We’ll take this oppurtunity to mention

We have already got a kettle and toaster
crockery, dinner mats, and matching coasters

So rather than something we have already got
We would appreciate money for our honeymoon pot

    But most importantly we request
That you come to our wedding as our guest

Were having one of these poems along the same lines anyway but not putting the end two lines as knowing our guests they wouldn't get us anything if they didn't think they had too lol. xx

no that sounds ok luv. wot about this one

we have no expectations for wedding gifts as having our closest family and friends
join us as we seal our love for each other is gift enough.
however, should you wish to give us something on the day then -----------------
    would be much appreciated.

    or

we have our dishes and towels for two,
pots and pans and a toaster too.
so if for our wedding you'd like to bring gifts,
holiday vouchers would give us a lift.
please dont be offended by this type of request,
our day is complete with you as our guest.

it could be taken as saying that the money is for marijuana for consumption on our honeymoon. lol

I think its a great idea - at first I didn't know whether or not it felt a little cheeky, but then everyone seems to be doing it and I don't think it's cheeky at all :)
You can put all the money together that you get from your guests and spend it on something that you will both enjoy instead of having a dozen kettles or toasters, lol!!!!!!

I've bought some of these little poems cards anyway for my invites :)

How about setting up an account on a website that specialises in collecting the money on your behalf. That way you could put your poem in your invites and on your web Gift Page. Your guests and well-wishers will then get the "gift-list" style experience when donating their monetary gifts towards your honeymoon as well as leaving you a little message back!.

Because at first we lived in sin
We've got the sheets and a rubbish bin
A gift from you would be swell
But we'd prefer a donation to our Wishing Well!!

More than just kisses so far we've shared,
Our home has been made with Love and Care,
Most things we need we've already got,
And in our home we can't fit a lot!
A wishing well we thought would be great,
(But only if you wish to participate),
A gift of money is placed in the well,
Then make a wish .... but shhh don't tell!
Once we've replaced the old with the new,
We can look back and say it was thanks to you!
And in return for your kindness, we're sure
That one day soon you will get what you wished for.

i could do with a little help, just written my own but there is 1 word i just cant seem to get in lol...

I know this may sound cheeky, and we don’t like to ask
But we have everything in our home, from a kettle to a flask
We have a toaster, we have our towels, we have glasses and the plates
The only thing we really want, is to set the next big date.
A honeymoon is all we need, I’m sure you will agree
To make our special occasion, the best that it can be
Of course we don’t expect a thing, we’re really not that ********
Your presence at our wedding, is all that is required
But if a gift is what you had in mind, then please respect our wishes
A money donation would be great, we really don’t need dishes

any suggestions for the bleeped out word would be great thanks xxx

we're thinking of sending this one so its not actually mentioning the word money or cash. but still aiming at the same thing...and as a lot of our guest will be travelling some only 20 odd miles some 220 miles.

As many of you are travelling afar,
It may be hard to fit a gift in the car,
We don't have a gift list, we don't want presents,
All we ask of you all, is to give us your presence.
But if you wish to still give us a gift,
we'd love you giving our honeymoon fund a lift.

21st October 2011 will be the best day of my life!!!

I'm still working on a poem for ours - what I've got so far is a bit awkward and needs polish, but so far it goes something like:-

The best gift we can have
Is your presence on the day
We've cups and plates a plenty
    and a lovely big duvet

So if you want to gift us
    something then you may
    We've love a little donation
    towards our special day

You can give us cash or cheque
but please say who it's from
    or using modern technology
    at ourwishingwell.com!

We made up a poem for the wording of our invites:

We're finally getting hitched and we'd like you to be there
There'll be cake and food and stuff, so make sure you're not elsewhere

Our fancy do will be from 4 at the Brooklands famous track
The 28th of May's the day or you'll be sure to miss the craic

There won't be any wedding list for my precious Melly
We already have a sanwich toaster and a great big telly

Soon we'll be off to Hong Kong and then to China too
If you'd like to help us out we'd think it wonderful of you

To help us pay for the honeymoon that we'd like to book
We'd gladly receive a quid or two in vouchers from Thomas Cook

We've had £150 already! Also, I got my fab shoes in exchange for Melly!!

Well i need help wording the poems so that its tailored for us and im the worst at writing so was hoping you's all could help!

Below is three poems that we like, the reason we're asking for cash is that on our honeymoon we are wanting to do all the trips in egypt ie valley of kings, pyramids etc and im not sure how to incorportate this into a poem

can u lovely girls (and boys) help me please?

    POEM 1
we have our glassware and towels for two,
pots and pans and a toaster too.
so if for our wedding you'd like to bring gifts,
money for on our honeymoon would give us a lift.
please dont be offended by this type of request,
our day is complete with you as our guest.

    POEM 2
We know its not traditional, and not the way it's done
but instead of a wedding list, we'd like a bit of sun
so if you'd like to give a gift to celebrate
some money for our honeymoon we would appreciate

    POEM 3
    We know it’s not traditional
It’s not the way it’s done
But instead of a wedding list
We’d like a bit of sun.

Please do not think of us as rude

I received a....bad response for putting one of those poems in my invite from the oldies

    It said

If you were thinking of a gift
To help us on our way
    Small donations in our well
    Would make our wedding day

But the gift we find best
    Is you as our guest

Was a bit rubbish though, found it before I found this site

Yeah apparently IT was distasteful and I was 'taking the fun and tradition' out of the wedding because they really wanted to give me towels and used lecreuset pots and pillowcases older than my dad.

I wouldn't be offended by the request at all.

We don't want gifts either and would much prefer cash. But I remember my uncle making a comment at another wedding when they asked for money that it was rude to ask for it and I can just hear it echoing when I've read through some online.

We have three boys and want to word it that we would like to put the money towards a family trip later in the year rather than our honeymoon. We'll be paying for our own honeymoon but feel guilty about not taking kids so want to do something with them later.
Maybe asking for vouchers might be better? But we would appreciate the cash much more.
I know that it works out cheaper for some guests to buy wedding gifts (as we won't know the cost), than feeling they have to give a generous amount of money. So awkward!

I'm hoping people will use their sense and know we have what we need and will give money instead?

We will be asking for money as tbh we don't need anything for the house so it would be a waste! One thing we might do is people can get vouchers or pay online towards honeymoon which I can see is a good idea for some people.
I think the negative side is some people see the whole money talk in all ways quite rude e.g asking peoples wage as some people believe this is the rudest thing ever!
The thing is gifts years and years ago were for couples only just moving in together so they did need everything for the house however these days most people are living together already and there is a limit to amount of toasters one couple would need lol
