I'm a young bride, not going to lie, but it really annoys me the way that florist seem to hate me. I always get a filthy look when I walk in, and nobody wants to talk to me about my flowers for my big day. Our wedding day is the most important day of our lives, and because of the behaviour of these florists, I'm beginning to think that it's almost not worth it. :(
Anybody else had the same reception? Anybody got any ideas on how to change it? Please help me ladies, I'm getting quite upset

i know it might sound a bit harse but i dont mean it like that, but they prob think u are a time waster because of your age, maybe if u took your mum, or MIL2B or an aunt just an older women they might take more notice. i know u shouldnt have to do that to be taken seriously but sometimes that is the way they work, hope u have a better time of it hun, dont let them ruin your speical day xx

yeah i'm fairly sure thats what it is, but it doesn't make it any eaiser to deal with. the MIL2B is coming with me next time i go to the florist i really want to use, but we're both slightly annoyed about the fact that i cant do it myself! Young, i might be, stupid, i am not.
Thanks for the advice though <3 x

i had nightmare in a florist, went to the one where i live on my own and the woman wa'snt interested coz i wanted thistles, i was told you can have something like this and gave me the most hideous bunch on]f manky flowers ive ever laid my peepers on, i have been to others but iv took other ppl with me but ended up buying online as i struggled to get the thistles i wanted . as fairytale said i would take someone else with you then the chance of them being snooty due your age shouldn't be a problem, dont let them ruin the experience tho.

Hey hun. Just to let you know, it could be that your not getting married for 15 months yet. My sister is a florist and she is doing my flowers. She told me she knows kind of what I want, she can do anything I want so she doesn't want to talk about it until nearer the day. In a way shes right, what the point in talking about something shes not gonna start making until the week of the wedding. And not placing an order until may next year. Maybe this is why the florists are reluctant to help you.
If they are being really rude they are gonna loose your trade at the end of the day. I'd go elsewhere.
Cheer up though chuck! Your getting married!! :D

thanks ladies, making me feel better already. Puddleduck, i see your point, but i need to work out how much money i'm going to have left in the buget for the stag, hen, & honeymoon, after we've got things like flowers and the venue sorted. It's not that I'm not prepared to spend the money, im just not prepared to be taken for a fool. I got the MIL2B to go in to one of the posher florists that had laughed me out, on her own, and dheard the staff talking about how they'll just send me an email quoting me about £2,000 more than they'd normally charge to shut me up. Needless to say, I wont be returning to them. <3 x

Thats ridiculous. H2B's sister is a florist and refuses to talk about what I want, whether she thinks I'm expecting freebies I don't know. Maybe it's just like puddle said and it's simply that its so far away. I'm going to get silk flowers though, have found some great online sites! x

aww sorry to hear about your stresses with florists. I havent even been to see one yet, as im not getting married till september 2011 but i understand about needing to know a budget. Im seriously thinking about silk flowers too like debz, esp for my young bridesmaids as it will be nice for them to keep afterwards. still undecided about my flowers but lots of time too think! I hope you manage to get something sorted soon.

oh hun they sounds terrible! they are lucky i wasnt there or i would have marched right back in there and handed them their asses on a platter! the ruddy cheek!

Unfortunately with planning the best day of your life comes the most temperamental of suppliers. for some reason you are a million times more likely to come across a snotty bitch dealing with companies you need for your wedding. i really dont know why they think they are better than everyone else. But on the other hand you also come across the most amazing people, just stick it out hun and hopefully you'll find someone you really get on with and wants to genuinely help you. xxx

    thanks gals
a key part of this wedding for me is the flowers, and after my recent meetings, i have to confess im toying with the idea of going into a woods, foraging, and doing it myself. Would be cheaper, by far, but would cause more hassle than it may be worth, and wont nessecarily be what i want. Plus, i'd have to get sombody to set up at the reception venue for me. i know the big day is a long time away, but im not asking to have the moon on a stick; i just need a rough estimate of prices, which, obviously, involves the florist knowing what flowers i want, and how many of everything im going to need. I can't plan without numbers, and I can;t get numbers untill they talk to me. Sucks. <3 x

Jnaden, thats my thoughts, and Ca ca, if you shop around, especially online, for silk flowers, there's some really competitive prices out there, depending on the flowers you want.

Again Ca Ca toughen up! You want to have flowers, you have ideas and the £££ then you have exactly the same rights as anyone else!

If you feel the florist is being problematic ask politely if their is a problem...I don't know how young you are but perhaps the florists are not taking you seriously due to your age...you conduct yourself in an adult manner (I am sure you did) you will get respect (eventually!).

P.s there are b2b on here whom have used online florists and i believe they have been very pleased.

My florist is a friend - she is currently in her third year at college studying floristry, perhaps you have a college nearby that has a similar course and you could take a look at some of the students work - they are really up on the latest trends and will probably cost less and they will give you their undivided attention too.....

My mum or dad have come with me for most things. One because there paying (i'm a very lucky girl)
I did however pop into a florist on my own and got told to come back when there's actually a date to work to. I explianed that there was and she appologised and explained that they get lots of girls my age coming in just because and she got annoyed with it. As it is, i'm now going to a lovely florist who is VERY flexible on everything.

    Some people are assholes..... period.

We get a similar reaction when we've been to wedding fayres. They look at us as if we are something they have scraped off their shoes because we look a little "different" to the norm... so of course we cant possibly afford their wares eh.

They soon look embarrassed when i turn to mark and say "oh thats FAR too cheap" or "Far too chavvy that love"......

After being quoted silly prices for the most simplest of bouquets I have decided to get mine online, from www.sarahsflowers.co.uk. They look very real despite being silk and I can get them way before the wedding so I wont be sat there 2 hours before panicking because the flowers havent arrived yet from the florist. And I can keep it forever which is nice. It seems silly to pay £100+ for a bouquet for one day when you can get the same thing online for £40ish.

I've got mine from an amazing lady on ebay. She's a very talented florist and has been doing flowers for years.
Mine are silk and I have my bouquet already - it's perfect and only cost me £35 :0)
