    Hi Irranath
I'll be honest and say it's not really the done thing. By all means say you don't want gifts but if anyone wants to contribute to your honeymoon then a cash gift (they won't know what you end up spending the money on) would be much appreciated but I wouldn't ask for guests to pay towards the wedding costs. Instead can you limit your guest list (many couples have to be ruthless and cull their guest list due to space and cost limitations) or go for a cheaper food package. Drinks you can say it's pay bar only maybe but it is good to at least provide some soft drinks or as a minimum water.

I would say it is an absolute no-no to ask people to contribute to the food. Rather not ask them at all or look for something alternative like a picnic setting that would be cheaper to provide. We have had to leave out lots of people which is really hard as for some odd reason there is lots of excitement about our wedding but there is no way we would ask for contributions. On the other hand, apart from soft drinks, we are not having an open bar and people will be paying for their own drinks. I felt bad about this until I was assured that it is the norm now.
