me and h2b would love to go to paris for our honeymoon the only thing is is we are both afraid of flying (and by afraid i mean we have never been on a flight) i know there is the option of the 3ur0st@r but that is quite costly and would include also having to travel from bolton (near manchester) to london to catch the train. Flight seems to be the cheapest and easiest option but i just cant seem to shake my worry. has anybody flown from manchester to paris? how was the flight? TIA x

I haven't flown from Manchester to Paris but I do fly from Birmingham to Dusseldorf a few times each year which is only an 1hr20min flight. It would be a relatively short and smooth flight it may be weird if you have never flown before but take off is just like being in a very fast moving car which is a bit noisy and landing is just landing there isn't really anything special about it.
My tip would be to buy some hard boiled sweets and have them on the flight as they can help reduce the ear popping and tell the staff its your first flight and they will help you as much as they can. :)
I was bricking it on my first flight which was from London to Iceland but as soon as I had done it I was fine and I really enjoy flying now...just not the ear popping when I forget my sweets :)

thanks Stacey :) that's a good tip about the boiled sweets as i hate ear popping. I think once i'm on i'll be ok, it's h2b i am worried about most of all. He keeps telling me that too much can go wrong D: think he's just a bit of a worrier

Sometimes when I let my thoughts run away I think OMG I'm going to die on this plane, but if you think about how many flights are made globally each day and how many accidents are reported in the news its a very very small majority you have more of a risk of walking in the street and getting hit by a car than something going wrong with a flight there are far too many safety precautions now in place. :)

that's what i keep saying to myself Stacey! I'd be on a plane no problem if it wasn't for him putting doubts in my head! aha

Scared of flying here too... Im just a worrier! I have flown before though.... Once im in the air im fine lol. I need to get on a plane as we are getting married abroad! Haha! I just keep saying to myself the chances are so slim for anything to go wrong! Guess its safer to travel on a plane than a car if you think about it! :-)

thanks Leanne :) i desperately want to get to paris but the train is double the cost of flights and that's just the tunnel, not even including getting to london and it's a fraction of the cost as well. It's a no brainer value wise but it's just that niggling voice of worry ahaha x
yes you defo need to get on a plane then if you are getting married abroad! good luck x

Hi Nichola, i use to work for easyjet as cabin crew and i can assure you it is super safe. Your flight will be so quick that youll be up and down before you know it.
When you get on let the crew knew your both nervous and they will keep an eye on you and reassure you.
The front is the safest part of the plane and the middle is where you get less turbulence if that helps, the back is where you get the msot so probably dont sit there lol! xxx

Sorry just seen i called you nichola instead of nicole!!
You can try taking some calms tablets a few days before hand, and a few vodkas on the day! lol. Planes are so safe, it just depends on the weather if theres turbulence or not so fingers crossed youll have a nice dry day. Try and enjoy it rather than fear it, if you can!!! Definitly much cheaper and quicker :) xx

I'm absolutely petrified of flying but to help me get through it, I give myself an incentive. I do something I want to do on holiday and coming back I treat myself to something like a mcd0n@ld5 or something.
I would also recommend taking something to read for the flight itself. Some flights have magazines but not all. Listen to some music while you're reading will also help to distract you. My oh and I usually do this together. He's not a nervous traveller, but gets travel sick and he says this helps him. It's all about finding what helps you keep calm and relaxed. Good luck!

thanks everyone :) are you allowed to bring tablets on the flight? sorry if that's a silly question. Cos if we are we can just pop a film on and the flight will be over before the film is x

sucking sweets also helps reduce the popping sensation in your ears when you take off and land, just keep sucking and swallowing (without sounding dirty haha!!) and it clears the pressure x

Hi Nicole. Flying may be cheaper but bear in mind costs of transfers can be expensive if not using public transport in Europe. The airport is not in Paris centre so you'll either need to pay for public transport into the city centre or a taxi. The 3ur05t@r arrives smack bang in the centre of Paris then it's really easy to take the m3tr0 to which ever part of town you're staying in. You also have a much shorter check in and waiting time than for flights so overall I've always found the train faster and actually more comfortable and convenient than flying to both Paris and Brussels.

Also sorry just to add you can get some really good deals and offers on 3ur05t@r, just need to look out for them. Also search different departure times, some times are cheaper than others if you avoid the peak times. I've managed to get £59 returns before.

I work for *****3@5yj3t as crew, as MrsC2Be said let the crew know about being a nervous flyer, they can hopefully move you towards the front and explain about anything you are unsure about, and don't worry the flight will be over before you know it.

Hope you can get a good deal for when you want to go. If however you do decide to fly Paris is probably a good destination to start with because the flight is so short x

My husband and I flew from Heathrow to Paris, so even shorter, they barely had time to serve snacks on board (not all airlines will be serving snacks). The big thing I remember is the time at the other end. It took ages to go through the airport when we arrived, it's absolutely huge. It seemed like we walked miles just to get to baggage claim. Then we had to find the machines to buy train tickets into Paris itself, which took a while but that was down to someone completely inept in front of us in the queue.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
