Hi I'm Hannah and I'm new here!

I got engaged at the end of November and am already in full swing of planning the big day. We are looking at getting married beginning of 2018 and will secure the date at the end of the month but I have a HUGE problem with the dress!! I am a large girl size 20 ish and I started slimming world this month! I have done slimming world before and it worked for me after losing 2st but then fell back into bad habits and put it all back on! But I do know I have done it before so can do it again! I am hoping to loose quite a large amount over the next year around 6-7 stone as I will not be a fat bride! But I don't know what to do about trying and picking a dress! I'm not going to start looking till around march/April time so hopefully will have lost a few stone by then but I don't know how to go about it if (hopefully) I will be a lot slimmer by the end of the year! How do I know what it will look like etc Anyone who is doing the same or have done this in the past can give me advice?!? Thanks x

Hi Hannah, congratulations on your recent engagement!

I am in a similar position to you, I started planning about 2 years ago and earlier last year (with around a year to go to my wedding) I joined slimming world with the aim of losing about 3 - 5 stone. I have lost over 2 stone already, though put a bit back on over Christmas, but I'm happy with my losses so far.

Rather than ordering a dress from a shop I decided to wait until I had about 6-8 months to go. After losing two stone I felt much more confident about going to try on dresses. I went to some local shops and the Nati0nal W3dding Sh0w and tried on some different dresses - the style I thought I liked when browsing online made me look like a granny! After a bit of narrowing down I found a style that was close to what I wanted.

Then just before Christmas (with about 6.5 months to go) I saw the dream dress online. A bit more digging and I found a shop selling it, in a size I thought would fit, as a sample sale - which is when shops sell the samples of dresses they have in store (for brides to try on) to make way for new stock. Tried it on and knew it was the one. It will need alterations (especially if I continue to lose) which I'll have done with about 6 weeks to a month before the wedding.

I really recommend going down the sample sale avenue, it means you can buy a dress that suits/fits much closer to the wedding, offnthe peg, after you've lost weight. Warehouse shops like W3d2b3 have hundreds to try on and buy right there and then. Plus it can save you lots of money. My beautiful, designer dress cost over £1000 LESS than if I'd ordered it through a bridal shop.

Just my experience, hope it helps. Good luck!
