Hi everyone - I was wondering if I could get some idea on how much alterations for dresses will cost. I know it will vary on what needs doing but a ball park idea would be fab.

All five of my BM dresses need taking up and about half of them need the sleeves shortening and my dress needs taking up slightly and taking in around the bust.

I just want to pop a figure to make my budgeting spreadsheet make sense aha

    TIA x

Mine needs shortening and taking in at the waist and bust. My dress shop said i would be looking at between £200 and £300 for it to be done.

My wedding dress is being altered on the shoulders (lifting up) and shortened at the front and the bust part re shaped, I'm also having some of the fine beadwork secured its its only costing me £80.
She is making my bridesmaids dresses from scratch too, custom made, she's only charging me £100 each for them... I'm in St. Helens so north west. Hopefully those figures will help

Im in Kent Nicole. Everything seems to cost more than anywhere else except London. Tried my dress on again yesterday and we think by the time the wedding comes around the hips are going to have to be taken in as well so that will probably be more Should have got the smaller size but i didn't want to risk it.

I wouldn't have risked it either. my dress is already slightly too big in the back and i'm wanting to lose weight as well so it may need altering elsewhere by the time it rolls around. It must be horrible living in an area where everything seems to cost more than the average.

My OH is from Liverpool. I remember the first time we went out drinking in London. I thought he was going to pass out at the prices lol. I guess it all evens out with wage differences but you do hear the price of things from other parts of the country and think "well thats me being ripped off then" With the dress, as my mum said, it needing taking in will make me happy. It needing to be let out would have put me in a foul mood, she knows me so well haha.

I only need the hem taking up on mine I've been quoted 80 by the shop that I purchased my dress from.

If I may just pop this out there, I used to work in a bridal shop and the alterations very much depend on the dress. Some dresses are easier to alter than others and when you have to have them taken in or out the seamstress has to be very careful not to alter the structure or look of the dress. Some do charge more than others but if you have purchased from a shop and they have trusted seamstresses I wouldn't worry about being ripped off they trust them for a reason.

I should have added that my alterations were £260 however a good chunk of that is on my cover up, as it was one size fits all and one size def does not fit all lol so it's been taken apart and put back together to fit me. Xx
