    Hey All,

My wedding isn't until September 2018 but i am wanting to get everything planned and sorted now to "try" and save to much stress nearer the date.
My MOH is my big sister who i trust more than anyone. She is the quiet one of us all and doesn't really ever have to much to say. However when i showed her my plans for her dress and the bridemaids she simply went "oh i thought MOH's wear something a different dress than the bridesmaids".

At one i never knew this (so much to learn about tradition with weddings). Two i am quite OCD with things matching even more so with my wedding. I have a picture in my mind of all them matching. But now i feel i owe it to her to let her be different.

    Advice please?

They can wear something different but they don't have to. I have been MOH and wore same as other BM, my MOH wore same as other BM and other weddings I've been to MOH has been in the same as the other BMs so I think it's less common these days.

It's totally up to you... some people have their MOH in a different dress, or maybe just a slightly different dress so that they stand out as the MOH, but lots of people have the MOH in the same dress as the bridesmaids and I wouldn't say this was abnormal or unusual!

There are lots of other ways you could make her stand out without changing the dress if you wanted... i.e. different hairpiece, different flowers. However I wouldn't stress about it. In my opinion the MOH doesn't NEED to stand out as being any more important than any of the others - it'll be how she helps you and supports you etc that really makes her stand out as opposed to material things.

my MOH is wearing the same as my maids, maybe give her a different bouquet so she has something but not a complete different dress like Flossie has said x

I've never even heard that to be honest, about the MOH wearing a different dress. At the end of the day, and I don't mean to sound harsh, but it's your day and all eyes will be on you. I don't see that it matters that the MOH looks different from the other bridesmaids. She's plan your hen and help you with planning and help you on the day, that's what it's all about, not standing out from everyone else.

    Hope you get sorted :)

My MOH is wearing a different dress to my BM's but mainly because the style chosen for my BM's is a very fitted style and fits my two 21 and 23 year old bm's beautifully. Whereas my MOH is 45 and will be wearing a more mature dress (not too old or fuddy duddy). The dresses will be in a similar colour though

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

I have seen pics where the MOH wears something different, but I would be the same as you, I'd struggle with the whole OCD thing, so personally I'd want their dresses to match. My fiancée and I are having 5 BM's between us, and I couldn't cope with the idea of her maids in different dresses/colours to my maids

    Problem solved ladies,

I spoke to my sister and was completely honest, i told her i didn't want different style dresses and it looking mix matched, i said i wanted for her to look the same. To which she agreed and said she wasn't making it about her she just didn't think i knew that sometimes MOH has a different dress. I am the little sister after all haha.

I have ages yet. But can't stop looking at all the bridesmaid dresses!

Glad you got it sorted. At my sister's wedding I was MoH but wore the same dress as the other BM, but my 'special' role was as witness and I signed the register for them. Perhaps your MoH could have a similar 'special' role as part of your day x

Glad you got it sorted - it can be difficult sometimes though as everybody else has their own particular opinion about how it should be but at the end of the day it is your day to decide how you want it to be and they should all fall in line with that x

Good it is all sorted now, my MOH did wear a different dress but the colour matched with the other three who were all in the same dress, it's personal choice at the end of the day, if you want the same then it can be.
