We are only having a few children attend our wedding (mainly children in the bridal party, their siblings and close family). We do not want any other children there. I am having a dilemma with the invitation wording as I don't want to just bluntly say 'you can not bring them!' For our guests who we are inviting for the whole day I am putting on the RSVPs ' we have reserved 2 seats for you' to make it clear. But I don't know what to do about the evening guests. Obviously seats wouldn't be appropriate. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You could say due to numbers, any children will not be able to attend. I said that to a few of our friends, they were more than happy and understood totally.

Unfortunately due to capacity of the venue we are asking for children not to come along on this occasion. Or something along those lines.

I saw this on another website:

This is your invitation to join our special day,
But there's something sensitive that we would like to say.
Weddings can be expensive and there's not a lot of room
The speeches, and the standing round can fill the kids with gloom!
Which is why we have decided on an adults only day,
So we respectfully ask you leave the kids at home to play.
You will have to get a sitter but there's lots of time to plan
We'd love to celebrate with you, and really hope you can!

    That's really good Mrs Hurley2b.

Fortunately, I do not have this problem as there are only 2 children under the age of 16 at our wedding, and those are my nieces (ages 7 and 16)

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

I can't take credit for it unfortunately!! I'm lucky that there are no children in either sides of our family, but I would have a no children policy if the decision needed to be made.

Kids make up at least 30 at our wedding which we have to pay full price for but sometimes i feel like kids do make a wedding. I sympathise with people who struggle to get babysitting.
Let us know what you go with, itll help people in the future x

I really don't see why you have to do anything other than just put the names of the people you want on the invite. IE no kids names means they are not invited BUT some people do need to be told bluntly so I would just put something along the lines of 'adults only' on there.

Hope you manage to find a way to let them know.
Being blunt is quite often the best option.

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

We had no children at our wedding, but didn't need to actually mention it. All invites were named, so only people named on them attended. I think we were lucky though as I've read on here that guests have chosen to ignore it, or question it.

Wow StephanieM, you have to pay full price for the Kids!?

Mrs Hurley 2B, I love that poem, can I pinch it? x

I think you probably just need to be quite blunt I am afraid. Anything too vague will cause people to ask questions and you will then be in an awkward situation where you just have to say no, possibly to peoples faces! Honest and to the point would be my advice x

Of course you can Emily, but it's not my poem so I can't take the credit for it! ;)

We just said in the additional information sheet with the invitation that with the exception of immediate family we were unable to accommodate children. Everyone respected it.
