    Hello all

Has anyone taken their Fiance along with them when they have gone dress shopping? I am in a same sex relationship and my Fiancee is literally my best friend, we were best friends for 5 years before our friendship progressed, and before we got together we always said we would help choose our wedding dresses, but now she is my Fiancee, I'm not sure whether to take her along with me. I don't want to ruin that "first sight" moment with her as I walk down the aisle, but she is the person I trust the most to be honest whether a dress/style suits me. I've been watching a lot of "Say Yes to the Dress" and it seems like it is becoming more of a "thing" to take the Fiance along too.

So have any of you taken your fiance's along with you? If you have, do you regret it/would you recommend it?

It is slowly becoming more common for fiances to see the dress and help choose. I almost myself went with my OH because he often knows what looks good on me but in the end i bottled it.

If you dont want the big reveal i would say go for it.... You could also take your fiance to choose a handful that they like and you could try them on on a different date to have a surprise on the day. :-)

I say go with your gut instinct. If you feel that you want her there, then go for it and screw what is supposed to be 'traditional' as weddings are more specific to individuals nowadays rather than what tradition dictates.

You could always try lots of different styles and get her to tell you the 'style' that she thinks suits you best and then you could go at another time without her to choose one in that style so that she doesn't know the actual detail of the dress.

aw honestly i think you both should keep it a secret, just that moment of WOW when you see eachother has got to be worth the delay on seeing the dress x

I said to my h2b he could come with me when I go shopping but he doesn't want to. He knows how much I hate dresses. When I'm looking online at them or watching something on tv that has a wedding dress I ask him about it. There has been 1 or 2 that I have liked that he hasn't but most of them we agree on xx

I think NicolaB's idea is fantastic.

I asked my OH to come with me too, but he said no - not because he doesn't want to, but because he want's me to keep the dress a surprise for the day of the wedding.

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

the first time i went to a shop i took my oh along. but when i found the dress i didnt bring him and im not going to let him see it till the big day. if you both want to help each other choose i think thats really sweet and you can make sure your dresses go together. it will still be different on the day as you will have hair makeup shoes.

Thank you ladies for your input. NicholaB, I really like your suggestion, so will probably go with that option! That way I get the best of both worlds!

I am definitely of the opinion that the dress should be a surprise. It adds to the excitement on the day. I wonder if she knows the exact dress you might feel a tinge of regret that you let her see it. However if hers is the opinion you trust most then take her along but make sure you make the choice a 2 or 3 horse race and then decide on your own which one you want so that ultimately there is still an element of surprise.

I took my wife along when we both went dress shopping and I can honestly say it didn't matter about 'the moment' as it meant more to have her there and helping me with one of the hardest decisions I needed to make. Maybe take her along and get her opinions but then confirm privately with the shop which one then you still have her but there's an element of surprise too! X

It might also be worth asking her what she would like. She might want to be surprised on the day. But whatever you decide to do, as long as you're both happy that's the main thing. x

We have discussed it, I think she would like to come, but I am worried there would be that element of regret if she saw the dress before the wedding for both of us.... Hmmmmm decisions, decisions......

I def think taking her while you try some on and get a feel for what you like is a good idea and then deciding on the final one by yourself. Best of both worlds. xx

Is your fiancee wearing a dress - are you going shopping with her? I suppose of you know hers it may be a little strange if she doesn't know yours.

I think it would be fun to take her but I love the suspense of not OHs not knowing until the day, I agree with the others about not making the final decision until you are on your own.

I like the idea of you choosing a few together and then surprising her with which one, but like you say, you might have some regret. So you could always choose some styles you both like (ie ball gown, fishtail etc) and get a feel of what she thinks you look better in. You could then go on your own and choose a dress based on that. You get the best of worlds then - dress shopping with your best friend and the surprise factor when you walk down the aisle! X
