We're having a church wedding, and the lady doing our invites have just asked if we want her to do the order of service sheets. Are they necessary? I've never been to a church wedding so don't even know what it's for or what to put in it?

Sorry to if I sound naive

I'm having an order of service. I wouldn't say they were necessary, but they are helpful! They contain the running of the service and usually the words to the chosen hymns, which is useful. There are plenty of websites you could look at for ideas of what they could include and then you can make a decision as to whether or not you want them! Hope this helps.

Also, our church gave us an example order of service which includes the relevant details they think would be important to include. It could be helpful to ask somebody at your church.

Ive never been to a wedding that had an order of service so i dont think its essential.
Ive got a pallet which i painted brown and it has a list in white writing what the day should run like. Perhaps you could consider a d.i.y sign or something if you want one?

We had an order of service for our church wedding. It had all the words to the hymns in so people didn't have to hunt for them in hymn books and the version of the Lords prayer we wanted which everyone read together. It is more useful at a church wedding as there tends to be more going on so helps everyone follow along.

We also had names of parents, bridesmaids, best man and ushers and there relationships to us which was a nice acknowledgement to them. X

We attended a friends wedding recently and they had a large screen projector which showed pictures of the bride and groom since they met, and then displayed the order of service and the words to the hymns.

It was a really nice touch

Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

i wasnt going to bother to be honest but MIL to be insisted that they are a must and so we are having them (to be fair she has offered to make them for us) do whatever suits you but if you want to save on costs then they arent really needed

you need an order of service of some form for a church wedding so people know what to say when and the words to the hymns. this could be on paper or on a projector. I have sung at weddings where it is simply an A4 piece of paper folded and printed double sided but they can be prettier than that if you like.
