Please could people advise what the parents in the party have worn? We have my stepdad on the brides side and dad and stepdad on the grooms side. Should they be matching the groom and groomsmen or can they wear different?
Thanks very much.

My dad and FIL wore tails matching the groomsmen. There's no hard and fast rules about it though.
I wanted to make sure it was clear they were important, who they are and that they were part of the bridal party, not just in the wedding party.

I want to make sure they're known as the bridal party but at the moment we're looking at brown suits with tweed olive waistcoats and I don't think my stepdad would be keen on wearing a brown suit. Was toying with the brown for the groom and groomsmen then maybe something matching for all the fathers such as navy with same colour tie as the rest of the group. This is stressing me out more at the moment than any other detail haha! X

I know a lot of people include dads in the bridal party by matching them with the groomsmen/ushers etc. I'm sure it's not 'mandatory' though - if they are dressed differently they would usually have a button hole any way to make them stand out.

Not decided yet but I don't think I want them in the same colours. I'll ,ale them stand out in some other way. It's really up to you what you do with the colour schemes
it's personal choice, you can have them match or have them different :)

I know when SIL got married all the men wore the same kilt suit, it seemed strange as we where on the brides side but it worked out nicely. I suppose its down to choice but only OH and his BM are wearing the same suit, our son is in a different colour.

i would say it's personal choice too, we are having whoever walks me down the aisle in the same scheme/suit as the groomsmen

We had the dads matching, for me it was really important to include my dad in the wedding party. OH's dad was also a kind of unofficial second best man, so he wanted him in the same suit anyway. So we had both dads and OH's best man in grey suits, and OH wore a navy blue suit so he stood out as the groom.
It's not your responsibility to by the mum's outfits - they should buy their own x

I agree with others regarding moms outfits. I will not be buying my moms and mils. My sister disagrees and thinks that I should. Where does it stop though then!!
Never heard of the bride and groom buying the moms outfits though personally. My mom is happy to pay for her own and nothing has been mentioned in front of MIL.
Our Dads are definitely wearing the suits. Think it's lovely when they are a part of the wedding party wearing the same xx

Emily I agree with you, if you want to treat your mum absolutely fine but it should not be expected, look back to the days when parents were expected to pay for everything and not its made a complete 180! people want too much i think

As a rule I would say the B&G should pay for any outfits which they have chosen and want their guests to specifically wear... MOB and MOG would normally choose their own outfits anyway, it's not like you would put them in a specific outfit that they HAD to wear.

True, agree with that 100% Flossie
Some brides specify that moms have to wear a complimenting colour. I don't mind at all for my mom. She has looked at a dress that was a blush pink and absolutely gorgeous. My sister said she couldn't possibly wear it because it wouldn't go with our red colour scheme.. You could say that to every guest if you wanted haha!

yes my mum will be wearing whatever makes her feel the most beautiful/comfortable, a lot of brides are also too strict these days

I agree as well, mothers should be able to choose their own outfits and therefore pay for themselves. My mum wants to try and fit in with our colour scheme though, and has been trying really hard to convince my grandma that she should buy a new outfit for the occasion. We've spotted something we think she'll like, but getting her to look at it might be tricky.
