    Hi ladies

It's been 8 days since mil nearly died having suffered a serious stroke and had a massive blood clot in her brain starving it of oxygen.

Doctors performed emergency surgery to save her life that was unsuccessful that day so then the following day she had to be rushed to theatre again to have part of her skull removed to allow th brain to swell without causing damage.

Doctors have confirmed that tissue on the right side of the brain is dead but the doctors can't be certain at this stage how that is going to affect her.

She has no use of her left side and becomes tired very quickly (30 minutes or so of talking to people) she was moved to a ward yesterday and is then first on the list to be moved to rehab but she's still very poorly and I don't think she'll be well enough and possibly not even discharged from hospital by the time of the wedding so the question is when should I finalise our plans to cancel. It's just under 3 months to the day now and everything needs paying a month in advance. We've already paid off some big chunks like the 4K honeymoon so will have lost that cash but want to minimise the damage going forwards. We do have wedding insurance but not sure if that covers cancelling for relatives illnesses .. Will have to take a read.

Mil keeps making reference to the wedding how her friends are taking her to Newcastle in August to buy her a dress for it etc but seeing how poorly she is now I really don't think it's possible

I know three months is a long time for most illnesses but in 8 days there's been little improvement

I'm sorry to hear this, it must be a really hard time for you and your h2b atm. I can only suggest calling your suppliers explaining the situation and see what they say, then send out an informal message to your guest to ask them to hold off buying outfits for the time being whilst you focus on getting MIL comfortable. Reading your post I'm not sure if your MIL would be well enough anyway but another option may be to bring the wedding forwards (if the suppliers would work with you in this) and maybe downsize a little so that MIL could see you get married?
Sending best wishes to your MIL I hope she get's through this and is back on her feet soon xxx

I think most insurances do clver a close family member illness which your MIL would be covered under I believe. May be worth giving them a call.

I am so sorry to hear this Becci. You have a hard and trialling year. Sending love and hugs. xxx

Most wedding insurance covers illness of close family, believe me with my mums cancer ive checked mine as at one point it looked like we would have to pull ours forward

So sorry to hear this. I agree with Mrs D2b to call all your suppliers asap and explain the situation as they would be best to advise as each one may have a different cancellation policy. And definitely check your wedding insurance to see what it covers so you will know if you can get anything back if you do have to cancel. I would also contact the travel agent about honeymoon just to see if there's anything you can do to delay it. Thinking of you and you h2b x

Oh Becci, I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL, i have my fingers crossed she makes a speedy recovery. I echo what the other girls have said too, maybe read through the insurance policy and check if they cover for close family illness, and send a brief message out to the guests to keep them in the loop. xxx

So sorry to hear your news Becci.
If you definitely want to postpone I would speak to suppliers right away.
For your honeymoon you should still be able to change dates, is it a package or have you booked flights+hotel? Maybe if you push it back a year that would be better than losing all your money. x

So sorry for you all but by the sounds of it, your wedding is what is driving her recovery. She is looking forward to something very positive and with her talking about going shopping for her dress is going to be something to aim for. I'd be going ahead I think because imagine how devastated she would be if you cancel and she looses her drive. Xx

Becci I'm so sorry to hear about your FMIL.

Maybe could you consider just postponing for a year or two? Many suppliers will allow you to do that. Hope things start to get better for you and your family. Sending you lots of virtual hugs lovely xxx
