I thought it was up to me to pay for bridesmaids/groomsmen clothing and shoes but my mom thinks its upto the individual to pay. Whats the 'right way'?

    Who usually foots the bill?

Ive picked multiway dresses so that each bridesmaid can tailer it to her own style and have found a very reasonable price on etsy so cost wouldnt be an issue for anyone. Im more after what the normal thing to do.

I've not voted just because I can see from both sides of things.

As a bride I would expect to pay for bridesmaids/groomsmen clothes as a minimum. I would like to be able to pay for ladies hair + make up too but it would depend on the cost and the budget.

As it is we are going abroad and we don't have any bridesmaids/groomsmen so I don't have to worry about it.

I think if you are determining what some one is wearing you should pay for it, especially if they wouldn't get the use of it again/its not their style etc.

I think it can differ for everyone. I chose what I wanted my bridesmaids to wear, so I paid for their outfits and their hair and make up on the day. However, hubby's best man and groomsmen paid for their own outfits as he was happy for them to wear what they wanted.
I'm not sure there is a "normal" way anymore, some couples would rather pay for everything, others may not be in a position to. I think it can be different for everyone, so maybe don't worry about what's normal and just go with what works best for you and your OH? Xx

My two sisters are my bridesmaids they have both kindly offered to pay their dresses even though id budgeted to pay for them. I picked my colour scheme and they picked the dresses. I will be paying for hair / make up and accessories.

I'm letting my older bridesmaids choose their own dresses with just my input for colours. I have said I have budgeted up to £70 for their dresses so if what they choose is over that then they will make up the difference and they will sort out their own shoes - this seemed the fairest way to do things as I will obviously be paying for my two daughters dresses. I am also paying for the girls hair and make up on the day.

I would say if you are choosing the dress then you should pay- if you want specific shoes and hair I would say you pay.

I think you need to be up front with bridesmaid first tho x

We paid for everything. We were of the view that we asked the bridal party to be involved so didn't expect them to pay for any of their outfits, however we asked them to just wear smart black work shoes for the guys and my bridesmaids I said to wear what was comfortable for them from their extensive shoe collection.

Also we were deciding on the colour and style so couldn't expect them to pay for something they'll never wear again.

I think traditionally the bride and groom pay for the wedding party outfits but as you can see many people do it different ways.

I am making the BM dresses so will be paying for the costs myself, though we are hoping the best man will help out with the groomsmen suits, as he wanted to contribute something to the wedding financially, which is lovely of him <3

I will be buying my sisters outfit and hair and makeup on the day. She will sort her shoes out herself so that she is comfortable.
She has offered to pay for the dress but I don't think that's right as it isn't something she will wear because of the colour. She picked the design but I did have my say and said no to a couple that she liked.

We are paying for all bridesmaid and page boy outfits. Including shoes. We are also paying for the hire of the ushers and if they ruin it in anyway then that's where we say you can foot the bill. But we want everything matching n the same. I guess it depends on the budget and how much you want them to be apart of your wedding as they may not be In a position to buy it themselves. I was asked to be a bridesmaid and told to pay for my own. So I saved up. Hope this helps x

Yeah, I'm think that I'll pay for the dresses and the jewellery will be a gift. Hair/make-up/shoes will be for them to sort and pay for if they want. I mean I'm going to have a hair dresser and MUA there for me and W2B but if they want to use them or do it themselves or whatever.
