How many of you gave your engagement ring a little TLC before big day? Is it expensive to have it cleaned at the jeweller and is it worth it? xx

I dropped mine off to be cleaned and re-sized at the weekend. Mine is white gold, so rather than being "cleaned", it needs to be re-coated. It's not that expensive - as mine is being re-sized as well, I'm not sure how much it would cost just to be cleaned/re-coated, but I am paying £45 all inclusive, so I presume about £20-£25 for the cleaning/re-coating.
I would say it's definitely worth it as your engagement ring may look a bit dull against your wedding ring - and it's always nice to have a sparkly new looking ring :)
Happily married

I would certainly get it cleaned professionally before the big day.
With my engagement ring I got a card for free life time care, cleaning and maintenance, I currently take my ring in for checking and cleaning about once a month (I have horses so it gets dirty!)
However I am getting my wedding ring from a small independent jeweler and when we went in to design the wedding ring he cleaned my engagement ring for free and said he would do it before my wedding for free if I wanted.

depends what it is made from, if it is white gold i would recommend bringing it to a cleaner for certain as any normal cleaner will damage it due to it being so soft, also they will rhodium plate it for around £30.00 to put the shine back into it x

I had mine resized and recoated at the weekend and cost £35 in total. £15 for resize and £20 for recoating. It looks fantastic now.
With our wedding rings we are getting a free engagement ring clean and coat so will definitely be having it done before the wedding. I would pay to have it done if it wasn't included

I put mine to the jewellers to have a proper clean, then I did not wear it until the day.

I did the same as Glitterfairy, mine is platinum and a local independent jeweller charged me £20 to clean it up. It looked new when I got it back, so I decided not to wear again until the night before my wedding xx

From where I got mine from, they free clean whenever I want :-)

I have white gold and am having it recast in platinum as we want platinum rings. If it's white gold you can get it replated which will make it look like new - you can often get this service for free if you purchased your ring from a high street store - some of them include this in the purchase package. I've had a look and got quotes for £18-£25. The only problem is that it can take up to 10 - 14 days to get it back. If it isn't white gold the cleaning is cheaper and again might be included in the cost of your ring if it's a big high street store.

I'm planning on getting mine done and not wearing it again until on the day. I have a cheap one that ny h2b got me as a spare when mine went in for resizing, so I'll be wearing that up until the day!
