I did look for an official thread but the only one I could find was more aimed at flowers. No problem if you want me to move this.
I need ideas for our centrepieces. We cant have candles in the evening reception due to venue policy so I don't see the point in having them for the wedding breakfast either.
Flowers are a tricky subject as OHs family suffer badly from hayfever so real isn't an option. We are having a real flower top table arrangement so not sure if we had fake flowers if they would look tacky next to the real ones (I know that the fake ones are lovely but not seen them next to real before)
Any ideas what we can have as I just cannot think of anything!
Theme is elegant and relatively minimalist. We do have a theme of birds going throughout the day. I did knit a lovely little bird which matches the theme but not sure how to use it and if it's posh enough...

I have seen some wonderful birdcage centrepieces stuffed with battery operated fairylights. They had foam flowers and a mossy base. It sounds odd I know but it was beautiful. Wish I had pictures. You could always use the led faux candles that have the flickering flame look.

OH isn't keen on them and if I'm honest I'm not 100% sold. We don't want anything too tall so that people can still see each other. We are both from very small families so want to make sure people can still talk to each other
This is the only thing I am really struggling with!
I did consider coloured / patterned fishbowls with foam roses in them but not sure how this will look next to the real flowers

I'm sure they'll look fab. Possible a glass bowl with a "bird bath" sort of look, maybe a feathered faux bird leaning in with some floating foam flowers and a fake candle or two?
I know what you mean, my SIL had huge candelabras and we couldnt see people on the other side of the table, it was rather frustrating! :-P

We stuck branches in pots of oasis and decorated with fairy lights and little fake flowers on wire. You could always add little birds or a nest to keep with your theme. Everyone said they were really pretty a because we kept the branches quite sparse, people could still see through to talk to each other.
The bird bath idea is cute though. Never heard of anything like that befire so would be unique. X

We are using flameless candles in hurricane vases. Might be an option if you want candles but not allowed real ones

I went to a wedding where they just filled up fish bowls with R0535 and Qu@1!ty 5tr33t which went down really well. Could you do similar but maybe with F3r3rr0?

You could research low or no pollen flowers such as camellias, orchids, spray roses, closed bud roses etc. Also, you are getting married in the September is that right? I have just taken a look at the met office's pollen calendar, and it's just the tail end of weed pollen in September (and not everyone reacts to the same pollen anyway). So they should be ok for garden photo's.
It's really kind you are considering other people's allergies. I wonder how do they cope when they go to other people's weddings. I have terrible allergies, and take 2 different anti histamines to keep them suppressed.

Clairenina it is literally all of OHs maternal family so we would be really mean if we didn't consider them haha. It is a genetic thing they have. They all have awful hay fever and sever eczema :( For the real flowers we are having gerberas and roses as they are low pollen but we still want to limit the overall number of flowers as much as possible. We will also remind them all to take their antihistamines before they come to help them. No idea how they cope at other peoples. I know for OH we have a pack of tablets in both cars and my handbag (along with moisturiser and eczema creams)

I know the feeling Emily! I am allergic to so many things (it's now a standing joke!) so am having trouble with wedding flowers! My friend is a florist and is doing all of that for me, but she's finding it hard to get any really nice fake flowers. For the tables we are having vases with hazel branches (look like corkscrews) and led lights, also some jars with battery operated tea lights as I'm worried about having real flames with children running around! x

There's a warehouse shop in Birmingham that sells nice fake flowers. You have to buy a lot from there though but as she's a shop it may be of use. I cant remember the name but can have a look if of any use?
Just spoke to mom on the phone and will be putting it to her and my MOH tonight to see what they think. I'm leaning slightly towards the flowers as I do love flowers but I am not 100% sure.

My Sister had bird cages for her centre pieces. They had real flowers in them but you could probably get some good ideas on p1nt3r3st. We weren't allowed candles at our venue due to health and safety and were going to have fake ones supplied by our caterers. We didn't have them in the end but they looked very realistic so that may be something to look into too. We bought loads of fairy lights from an online store which were only about £40 (our reception was in a goods shed at a railway museum and we had a carriage pulled into the shed and wrapped the lights round the luggage racks). I can't remember what website we got them off now but it was light something.
