Our wedding is in a couple of months and the three gents in the wedding party are all wearing the 'clan' tartan, which is a mix of blues and greens with a thin white stripe. The bridesmaids are wearing grape, which is a muted deep purple. My fiancé and I had in our heads that the guys' cravats should match the bridesmaids' dresses but my parents say the cravats should be in green or blue to match the kilts.
Any thoughts?

Will they be wearing black Jackets. If so maybe a black cravat or bow tie? If the blue/ green is quite dark in colour then maybe go with a cavat to match. I don't think a bright blue / green cravat would work though. The grape might look ok but you would have to try it.

I don't think matching is a must anymore. My bridesmaids are in pink and we didn't see any pink ties for the men we liked. We ended up choosing a silver tie with a dark blue design through it. Sounds odd but the blue matches well with their suits. We will give them pink flower buttonhole so that there is pink somewhere but the ties are pretty neutral so I wouldn't worry about matching

Hi Heather, personally I would go for cravats in the clan tartan if you can to match the kilts, I don't think the BMs and male wedding party need to match though.

I would be tempted to have them matching but I am a bit like that lol. I don't think they have too xx
I would go with what goes but with kilts rather than matching bridesmaids

My bridemaids wore purple, I was not having the men/boys wearing purple so we had a colour to go with it, chose mint green, that's the colour the men wore.
If you want the cravats to match your bms then do it, it's your wedding and you should be able to chose yourselves.

If the purple cravats go with both the kilts and the bm dresses, and you like how they look, go with them. Don't think they have to match the tartan (though that is probably more traditional). Choose the option YOU like the best x

My h2b is in his own family tartan which is dark and light grey with cream and red through it, the rest of the men are in plain grey kilts. H2B will have a red cravat on and the bridal party charcol grey. the BM are all in red. The whole wedding party will look fab. Personally I would choose a colour to match the kilts but with the bm being purple i would be inclined to go with blues however the right colour of greenwould go well also. can you maybe take a swatch of bridesmaid fabric to kilt hire so that you can see everythign together? This is what I done. The bridal store had a swatch of my dress and h2b kilt to match the bm colour and then we went to her other store where kilt hire happens and he looked at them all again to help decide the correct kilt and jacket xx
