    Hi ladies

I just wanted your thoughts on whether we have ordered enough drinks for the day. Our venue is no corkage so we can supply our own for the reception, meal and toast before the cash bar opens in the evening.

We have 77 guests (two are pregnant and 4 don't drink). When I looked online it said you can get 6 glasses from a 750cl bottle of Pr0secco so we have ordered 12 for the toast (making 72 glasses). Are we cutting it a bit close with numbers?

We so far have 12 bottles of Buck5 F!zz ordered for the drinks reception as T3sco said that was the max number you could order at once so hoping to pick up another 6 or so and then have orange juice for those not drinking.

And as for drinks with the meal, well thats a whole other story. People had to choose their food from our menu on their rsvps so we have also asked them to select ONE drink to go with their meal. There a several reasons for this: 1) there is a family member who is an alcoholic who made me feel very uncomfortable at recent gatherings by constantly filling my half empty glass so she could fill her completely empty one. 2) at the last few weddings we have been to we have seen people totally take the biscuit when drinking booze they're not paying for and I refuse to pay for people to get drunk. And 3) we're not made of money!

Most people have filled in the rsvp with no issues but after questions from the caterer (just because they have to deal with the logistics of it all) OH is now worried people will be annoyed they only have one alcoholic drink and then just water on the tables during the meal. I think people will cope for 2 hours on a large glass of wine/large bottle of beer and water. What do you think? I just don't want people getting p!ssed on my money as that isn't the point of a wedding. They're not supposed to be there for a free ride.

    X

Ok I have to be honest - I do think you need a little more-

I would have maybe 1 glass of Buck's Fizz and a top up, I would perhaps get half again of Buck's Fizz

With regards to meal- it's standard to allow half a bottle per person or at least a glass and a top up and then ensure the bar is open so if people do want more they can pay for their own,

Again with the prosecco I woukd get more, allow a full glass per person and a little top up.

I fully appreciate that you haven't got the money and don't want to pay for people getting drunk (especially with alcoholics attending) but then you don't want the embarrassment of not having enough, especially for the toast,

Most of the weddings I have gone to have had tables of 8-10 and on each table there has been 2 bottles of red and 2 white wine and you'll find that guests normally swap with other tables if they don't drink red etc

It's great that you can bring own alcohol - places like M@jestics you can get really great wine and they offer discounts, if you are buying a few cases they may even give you additional discounts too

    Hope this is helpful xx

I agree we probably need a bit more Pr0secco for the toast and Buck5 f1zz reception which I'm happy to do.

I've just checked the rsvp list of what everyone ordered and we have a fair few others not drinking (the 4 and pregnant ladies were just my thoughts for the toast) so I don't think we will change things for the meal as judging by our current table plan we could end up with half a table not drinking so that is a lot for the rest of the table to get through.

If we ooen the bar earlier we have to pay more for the staff extra hours and we are so tight with timings because of our band setting up I don't want people queuing at the bar when we're trying to get them out of the room to be turned around.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions on where to get the drinks. We have found the Pr0secco in the yellow supermarket for £6 down from a tenner which we thought was quite good. X

That's a good price for prosecco! Yeah as you say if it's only 2 hours until the bar opens then I'm sure would be OK, if people Re not drinking too then you have extra wine, and if you have extra Buck's Fizz you can a,ways put that on tab,e too?

If people don't like it, then tough!

Ours was all included in a package until the evening.

    Supplied for day guests was:

2 glasses of alcoholic drink (sparkling wine and P1mm5) and some soft drinks per head for drinks reception with the canapés
Half bottle of wine per person during the meal plus bottles of water and squash for the children
1 glass of bubbly for the toast during speeches per person

That I understand is quite standard when drinks are being provided.

Anything different or on top of that guests bought themselves from the pay bar which was open from when we arrived from church.
