    Hi all,
I've set the date but now the registry office want me to set a time! I haven't got a clue!
I know we want fairly early so that the main wedding breakfast is fairly early and thus people will be hungry by the time they wheel out the hog roast in the evening (probably around 7.30pm)! but also taking into account that when I am nervous I do not eat at all and if forced to I will throw up, I have been known to faint before if my blood sugar gets too low.

    How long do ceremony's take?
how long should I allow for Photos?

I have 1 brides maid and 2 little flower girls, how long is sensible to leave for hair and makeup? (the flower girls will have the sum total of some sparkly lip gloss, but my MOH will want proper makeup and all will need thier hair done to various degrees).

Just panicing slightly now as its all getting very very real

A civil ceremony tends to last around 30 minutes - it depends if you want readings, etc. My venue has given us a brief timeline of the day where they have allowed 30 mins for the ceremony and then an hour and a half for photos. We are getting married at 2 with the wedding breakfast from 4pm. I had no idea how to choose either, so I just asked the venue what their recommended time would be in their experience to ensure the day goes as smoothly as possible, and that is what they advised!

If your hog roast is coming out around 7.30pm I would say maybe have your ceremony at around 12-1.

I'd say you'd only need a couple of hours for hair and make up. Maybe allow 3 just to be on the safe side?

Are you getting married at the same venue as the evening reception? If not then you will need to think about time to travel between the 2.

I agree with Flossie that 12-1 sounds good. but am also thinking that 7:30 is a bit early for the evening food. What time are your evening guests arriving. You will want the food at least an hour after that time x

mines exactly the same as Flossies, we get married at 2pm that lasts approx. 30 minutes, then hour and half for photos with sit down meal at 4pm for approx. 2 hours and then evening reception starting at 7/7.30pm with hot buffet xx

Emily - yes getting married in same venue as reception so no traveling needed.
It is one thing I have insisted on all the way through the planning process as I know my family well, non of them have any sense of direction or time keeping! 4 weddings and a funerla springs to mind! My family are all getting invites with the ceremony time stated as 30 mins before the actual ceremony to ensure that at least most of them get there in time
my OH's family will arrive an hour early!

I'd ask your reception venue for advice on timings.

Civil ceremonies tend to last a max of 30 minutes.

Are you getting married at the same venue as the reception or actually at the registry office? If at the registry office then you need to factor in travel time too.

If you want an earlier wedding breakfast you also need to factor in what guests will be doing once speeches and cake cutting is done. First dance is normally at the start of the evening reception.

1.5 hours should be plenty of time for photos and drinks reception, we served canapés at ours. That was set at around 3.00pm but we were late, then followed by receiving line at 4.30pm and sit down to eat wedding breakfast at 5pm.

The first dance was around 8pm with the evening buffet which was hog roast served at 8.30pm ish and everyone really tucked in.

We had a church wedding that started at 1.00pm but I was late so actually didn't start on time so by the time it finished and we arrived at the reception venue it was around 3.15pm.

If you want an earlier wedding breakfast then I think a 12 noon ceremony would work.

I also wanted an early ceremony, in order to take full advantage of the whole day. So I am doing ceremony at 12.30, breakfast at 15.30 and evening do starts at 19.30 with the first dance and evening buffet at 20.30.
