has anybody not had a wedding cake? how did that go? im not sure i want to spend all this money on a cake, when most people probably wont even eat it. they will of had lots of other foods anyway plus dessert then a buffet. i was only really bothered about the cake cutting photo but even a fake cake is a lot of money for nothing. i can live without a cake cutting photo! I bet everyone probably wont even notice its missing! tia :) x

Why don't you just make a simple Victoria sponge yourself or get someone to make one as a favour :-)

For us the cake was important and it certainly got a lot of attention, my SIL was the first to mention how amazing it looked. All our guests happily tucked into it when it was served and went back for more.

If you really don't want a traditional cake maybe go for something less traditional? One of my sister's friends didn't have a cake but had 2 wheels of cheese stacked on top of each other and then they cut that instead.

We definitely wanted a cake but didn't want to spend a fortune on it. We're spending £210 on a sponge cake with a ganache finish. I am sure it will definitely get eaten - everyone loves cake!!!

Like IDL said, you could go for something less traditional to cut costs. Like stacks of donuts, a f3rr3ro r0ch3r tower etc.

You don't necessarily need a tiered cake. You could just have a single tier. M&$ do plain cakes very cheap so you could just tie a ribbon round it in your colour scheme. We tried their taster cakes the other day in lemon and chocolate and they were both yummy if a little thick on the icing.

But if you don't want a cake, there's nothing forcing you to have one. X

You don't have to spend lots, maybe just make a sponge cake yourself, or get a plain white cake from the supermarket and add your own decs. Most people like seeing the ending couple cut the cake

I think the cake is one of the things that is quite easily dropped for the sake of a tight budget, most people probably won't notice if you don't have a cake tbh. You can always change your mind at a later date.

Would your cake work as dessert? You could also get a c0stc0 cake - yummy, big and cheap plus you get to personalise them .

I think it's personal preference same with most things really, we are having a cake as just one of the things I expected to have with a wedding lol but I wouldn't say it was overly different to normal wedding cakes but is slightly different and we have 4 different flavours. I would say though if your going to do a cake do something you want as I've been to wedding where people haven't taken care of the cake or did a quick rush job and didn't look nice where as having something in place of the cake would have looked better. Could you have cupcakes instead as least your know more people would eat them? I struggle when I go and the cake is just fruit cake! As I don't like it lol but them I'm boring haha x
