Really getting overwhelmed with this subject and I've only just started planning our wedding! How do I work out numbers when talking to venues?? Do Venues charge for everyone you are inviting or do they allow for the fact that everyone may not be able to come? We are looking at inviting around 80 day guests (including ourselves and bridesmaids etc.) as we both have quite big families and approx 130 evening guests but we are on a very tight budget. Please help because this is blowing my mind right now.

You pay for each guest I am afraid normally. We had 5 people who did not turn up, we still had to pay for them as you pay prior to the date. It meant we lost out on over £200, if we had known earlier we could have invited other people. If for the evening you are doing buffet, I think it is normally catered for 75% but don't quote me on that.

We had to pay for 105 and 3 didn't turn up (late notice as in couple of days before couldn't make it due to family issue and illness). Unfortunately you pay for as many as you intend to have there on the day.

Final numbers and final cost is usually set 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.
For our evening buffet we catered for 75% of all guests.
