okay, right, so i got through the contracts and paperwork for the photographer and im all excited and everything,

    BUT

one thing is worrying me. It very clearly states that the two photographers i am having must be served full hot meals at the reception. Now im not having hot food at the reception, it will be a cold buffet, and i dont know if that will be okay.
unfortunately i cant ask her at the moment and im a bit worried about this, am i being silly???cant really afford to provide her with a seperate meal, as it will cost me an extra 100 pounds for the both of them.
Anyone able to set my mind at rest about this, or am i right to worry??

    Hi.
I understand what your saying, I have the same problem and many questions! My photographer is with us from early morning right through to the evening reception. She has requested that she is fed, which i don't mind doing but my concern is were does she sit? does she mingle in with the family and friends and if this is the case i have to pick somone not to invite so to speak as we only have a limited seats for the day reception!
I don't want to shove her out of the way but also don't want to loose a seat for someone important to both myself and my H2B.
I don't think that the photgraphers should mind to much if it is a cold buffet as most weddings will be and at the end of the day if they are being fed they should be grateful for what you provide!
Hope you sort it out soon hun! xx

    Hey mrsquinn2b

apparently many photographers whilst asking to be fed at the same time as guests so they dont miss out on photo opps, they dont mind not sitting with the guests!!why not ask the venue if this is a problem for other brides, they might have a solution!!!
now ive just realised i have not thought about that either, and i already have too many people coming!!!!eeek!!!!
    good luck to you too!!!

dove-good idea, jon and i are already considering stopping for a mcdonalds between the ceremony and reception!!!

I think when they say a hot meal they mean a proper meal instead of a ag of crisps or something but its very common for people to have a buffet instead of a set meal so most photographers will be happy with that.

oh i forgot about this. i used to work in a hotel, and from experience, photograhers always sat in the bar area away from wedding to relax themselves and have a break. They didn't mind at all

Our venue mentioned this when booking. She said the photographer usually has what the guests have and sits in a seperate room. But its up to th e bridal party. If your having a buffet then the photographer has a buffet

Personally I think it is a friggin CHEEK asking to be fed.

Yep, I knooooooooooooow they work long hours..but, errrrrrrrrrrr so does alot of the population and they wait until they go home to eat OR take their own food.

Photographers are notorious for over inflated prices and asking to be fed a HOT meal just takes the fecking biscuit for me!

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr makes me mad.

p.s - I most certainly would not be sitting my photgrapher with my guests UNLESS they where a friend. Let them sit elsewhere in your venue or take their food to a car to eat.

Carlyroo .... I would say that you will give them enough money to get a meal from the hotel resturant but they shouldn't expect you to pay £100 for a meal for them ,, flippin heck what a cheek!!! :0

My caterers are pretty good on this one and will do a discounted hot meal for bands and photographers. Our bands don't want anything, so we're just going to feed the photographer for £10 (we're paying £32 per head for the main meals). I think as long as they get a half decent mood they'll be happy, and they don't have many breaks so I don't actually think it's that unfair.

    i'm with cece
If the meal for your guests is a cold buffet i don't see how they can expect any more.
Does adding a cup o soup count?
if you can't get them to budge feed them off the basic restaurant menu which will be cheaper than off the wedding menu
ask your venue if there is a side room where you can put the photographer while they eat
a lot of places have side rooms where they store extra chairs etc that you can use for this kind of thing

my venue has offered to do a tray of sandwhiches and tea/coffee for my photographer in the bar area. for free!
But i am actually going to ask her what she would prefer, sandwhiches at the bar or a seperate table in the dining room , and eat the same menu as us. the meal will cost £50, but i dont mind that, but maybe she wont want to sit with us. we'll see.

most photographers have that in their contract and you can understand it as it will be a long day and they ned to eat

why cant you talk to them at the mo? i would just explain that your having a buffet and cant afford a hot meal. as long as they are fed, i cant see the problem to be honest xx

me neither, i would just tell them you are having cold buffet and they are welcome to have the same. they should understand this, its not like you are eating a sumptous hot meal and expecting them to have a ham sandwhich is it? you would actually be treating them the same as your guests.

Our contract includes a meal but doesnt say it has to be the meal but if they'd like it I'm happy with that... chances are someone might not turn up anyway (I know we dont want to think that'll happen but that's weddings for you). As for where to sit, I think if it was me I'd be glad of the break away for the wedding... it's just a job to them even if it will be the biggest day to us - it must be nice to just get an hour or so away from the full on celebrations when that's what you do every day x

I am a wedding photographer and if i am invited to eat, then i prefer to eat somewhere else. if i dont do that i dont feel like i have actually had a break. Plus i dont take pictures of people eating because they dont like it. so i make myself scarce for an hour and then go back refreshed and ready to shoot.

We have to give ours food but as its a sit down we are only giving them a main meal so it will work out cheaper but we are having a harpist as well and we have to give her a meal as well which I'm really annoyed about it.

I would find out if it has to be hot food and explain that your not having hot food and go from there.

I don't know if we have to provide our photographer with food as we won the majority of our wedding, and he comes with the package. I will have to ask him.

I do agree with those saying that its wrong. I work almost 10 hours a day in an office, and still have to take my own lunch, I don't see why photographers can't bring their own.

Although saying that, like I said, we won the majority of ours so we got 40 wedding breakfast 3 course meals, so there might be space for him to have one of them if he requires to be fed.
