We are having a band at our reception playing for three hours (9pm-12am), do we need a DJ to play for an hour after this?
We are happy for our wedding to finish at 12am but the mother of the groom has complained and said people will be expecting to be staying until 1.30 so we need a DJ....
Would you be disappointed if you were at a wedding and it all finished at midnight?
It is going to cost an additional £250 for a DJ for one hour - a bit expensive I think, we have considered just plugging in an iPod and hoping nobody will notice or that we pick good enough songs!

No I think if people have been there all day then midnight is reasonable - if it's a hotel and ppl are stopping over then the bar normally stays open anyway and those that want to carry on the party will and those that don't will go to bed- I think it's a waste- much prefer a live band anyway :-)

I wouldn't have thought so, if people are still lingering around it can give them this hour to wind down and have a natter and a drink with people.

I wouldn't think so our band plays until 12pm and our guests will all be leaving at 12.30 and I wont behaving any music for that last part, the end of the night will usually be for guests to have a chat and unwind before going home or to the accommodation if they have it booked xx

I don't think its needed its a long day for guests to be there so they will most likely be wanting to wind down by that time ( I know I will )so wouldn't bother with DJ. you can play music on 1pod if you want or just have chatting..

All our music had to stop by midnight due to the area it was in, but we could of had an extension on the bar but we never bothered, good job really as most were leaving by just before midnight.

Agreed, I don't think it's needed. To maybe keep the peace I would have you ipod on shuffle and just turn it down low. Most people will leave at 12/half 12 anyway. x

I wouldn't bother! Our DJ is ending at midnight and whilst guests can still stay up and use the bar there will be no more music after this point xx

All weddings I've been to finish at midnight. Plug in the !P0d and let the ones who like to hang around enjoy a little good selection music and then collect their bits before leaving.

Our venue has said the music has to finish by law at 12pm. Guests are welcome to stay on as long as they like, but without amplified music.
