I really want to get married on New Years Eve. We are going to look at a venue on Saturday that are offering us a great package. The rooms for guests to stay the night are £210 (including breakfast).
My question is... if we were to set the date as NYE 2016, does this give guests enough time to plan and book there room for the night? I know some people make plans well in advance for NYE. I'm thinking it would be OK if we were to send STDS in January 2016 to give them the whole year. Or would you book it for NYE 2017?

They would have more than enough notice if you sent the STDs in Jan xx

It's plenty of notice if you send out in january 2016 for 31st December 2016.

Yes definitely plenty of time. We don't have plans this NYE yet, never mind next years lol! X
Would you be horrified if you received a save the date for a wedding and told it will cost you £210 to attend though?
The other option is to forget NYE. The venue also offer exclusive use for the same price during January, February and March. All 50 rooms! That would mean our guests could stay for free. No Christmas decorations to make it look all pretty though :-(

£210 is quite pricey but if they really want to stay then they will do, and just under a year is long enough to save up the money if they need to.

Will you have to pick up the bill for those rooms not taken up by guests?

I think it depends on the person they may think that's a lot on top of a gift, outfits, food, travel, money to spend at the wedding and it might put some off as they may simply just not be able to save for it as they don't have any disposable income, but im sure family wouldn't have an issue and want to be there for your day regardless of cost. Me personally I wouldn't do this, I find it very expensive for one night but if its what you want then go for it xx

Yes Flossing, we would have to foot the bill for unused rooms.
I want my guests to stay with us. I don't want them to have to worry about paying hundreds for a room or getting home. I suppose I could hire a decorator to create a 'winter wonderland' in January. Also, January is such a depressive month. Might be nice for people to have something to look forward to after the come down of Christmas?

£210 is quite expensive but presumably thats for two people sharing a room and on NYE you probably wouldn't get a room much cheaper anywhere else anyway. Perhaps test the waters and see what a few guests think, but if they want to come, they will. X

50 rooms is a lot of rooms - how many of those do you think guests would realistically take up? At £210 per room that could potentially leave you a very big bill to pick up for unused rooms.
A winter wonderland theme would be lovely, there are lots of lovely things you could do xx

I think it gives them plenty of time, but best to get it arranged as soon as possible in order to make sure the venue does not become booked up.

Plenty of time to let people know for NYE 2016, but I would maybe ask around first to see how many rooms your are realisticly likely to fill. If there's a really big cost saving then I don't see any problem with doing it in January instead, you'll still have winter wedding but if your dream is to have a wedding on NYE then don't settle for anything else xx
