so we had our interview with the registrar october 2014 and when we were paying for this he asked wether we wanted to pay the £1 postage charge and get our marriage licence sent in the post (he advised that if this got lost in the post they couldn't produce another one) so we said we would go pick it up when it would be issued in the 2 weeks, well we didn't realise that because we are getting married in a different county to where we live that the certificate has to come from that registry office! well its about a 1.5hr drive to this place so we went a few months ago to pick up the certificate (tbh i don't even know what we are meant to be picking up) and the woman behind the desk was so unhelpful and said they guy who deals with wedding stuff only works thursdays so we would have to come back another day, i explained we were from miles away and she just shrugged at me....anyway so that was months and months ago and it only dawned on me this week that whatever this thing is that we need to pick up, i tried ringing the registry office most days for the past week and nobody answers. iv found the sheet that i was originally given and they are calling it 'authorities to marriage' and 'certificates for marriage' my question is what is this? and do we need this on the day for the registrar to marry us? we are getting married at a manor house not at the registry office. my OH is just worried that it will come to the morning of the wedding and the register will say can i have your authorities for marriage and we are going to be like ermm no! so what is it? do we need it? i have no time off any thursdays to get up to where this office is and they literally won't answer the phones or reply to my emails, I'm stressing out over this :-S please help!

When we gave notice, they gave it to us there and then I do believe.
Our wedding day - 6 October 2012

We were sent some forms a few weeks after we gave notice, then we had to give the blue form to our priest (as we got married in a Catholic Church).

I believe it is what the registrar marrying you will need to see to know that you are free to get married legally. I don't think without it you will be able to get married. The certificate is the result of you giving notice.
Our registry office are sending ours directly to the registry office in the district where we are marrying so they will already have it on the day.
Happily married

Emily, you have to give notice if it's not in a Church of England, there they read banns, other churches you have to give notice, so we did because it was a Catholic Church we got married in x

When we gave notice, we were told anything which would be needed for our day would be sent to our registry office, all we left with were the ceremony plan to complete and return with our music and fee at least 6 weeks before.
