I'm having trouble giving notice due to changing my name 18 years ago by deed poll

As long as you have your original birth certificate, parent details and deed poll forms then you shouldn't encounter any problems. What problems have you been having?

As someone who also changed name via deed poll (although mine was only a little over 3 years ago), I agree with the above comments - as long as you have the relevant documents (original BC, original deed poll or a legal copy, photo ID, etc.), there shouldn't be any issues.

Have the registrars brought up any particular things?

OH has a different name than what he was born with and he didn't need anything. As his passport and ID documents had the same name as he was planning on getting married in they said that was fine x
