So on Wednesday we booked our wedding venue I was really excited to tell evereyone but no one seems over the moon about it and I got a lot of "well that's ages away" and it is! its 31/12/17 haha
So i'm now feeling a bit of an anticlimax has happened as I feel that theres a lot of things i can't do yet as it is so far in advance!
Are there any things i can do 2 and a half years in advance??

I find pint3r3st really helps. People had this reaction with us, and we were only 18 months to go! You can plan as much as you want now, to be perfectly honest, but I think if you do, you're going to feel the same "anti-climax" so I'd do research into what you want instead. Maybe visit some local wedding fairs so you still feel involved in it.
If you want to, you could probably book nearly everything now. Hair, makeup, dresses, music - whatever you want. There's no reason you can't if you want to :) I booked almost everything for our wedding within the space of 2 months and have 16 months to go... Now things are pretty boring, so I'm planning my hen do and looking at jewellery and pretty things :) xx

Although, you may find that dress shops won't let you shop for your dress or try any on this early. It was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I was engaged before (thankfully that didn't end in marriage, as there would have been divorce shortly after!) and planning for 2 years ahead, a lot of dress shops wouldn't let me book appointments. One was even quite rude, but that was over 4 years ago and will likely depend on your local shops xx

Congratulations on making the first steps for your big day :D Ignore other people hun! Maybe start looking around for photographers and videographers as they tend to get booked up pretty far in advance and can be quite expensive :) And ofc the big one - DRESS HUNTING :D
Ignore other people, yes it's a while away so you'll need to understand others won't be as excited about it as you yet. I'd just get on with researching suppliers and ideas for your big day.
Once you hit 12 and 6 months people will get more excited.

We started planning about 18 months in advance, and had exactly the same problem! People will start getting more involved as it gets closer, for the past 3-4 months the wedding is all anybody talks to me about now. I think we booked the church and reception venue about 18 months in advance, followed by the photographer. Then it was the dress 9 months in advance, the cake, cars, DJ all 6 months. I filled up the time in between doing all the research on the different centre piece ideas we liked, how to decorate the place, what gifts I wanted to get people, etc. One thing I would say about timing is to do it well enough in advance that you don't start panicking but don't do it too early! We finished booking everything a month or two ago and I am now finding the wait with nothing to do very frustrating!

We booked 2.5 years in advance and got the exact same. You just want to be excited but there is always someone that says it's ages away :( my mum and dad are still saying it's ages away and not really interested and it's a year in august.

I booked 37 months in advance and trust me the extra time helps. Bridal shops should have no issue in letting you shop for dresses. A the end of the day your perfect dress may be in this seasons collection not next seasons collection. And after all you are going to pay for that dress so if they have a problem say that is fine well if I don't find my dress I certainly won't come to you in a years time if you don't want my business now. Make sure they know you are not happy. I booked my venue in June 2013 for July 2016. In the July I booked my florist, in August I won my chair covers and £100 off my cake if I chose that baker which I did so booked my cake in August also. In November I ordered my dress, I started looking at Photographers in January,in March I chose my bridesmaid dresses but the salon owner (who I know) wouldn't let me order due to time because the dresses are chiffon and cannot be let out so asked me to wait a year, in April I booked the Humanist, and in May I booked my Band, in July I booked my Photographer, My dress arrived in October and is perfect, in January we bought our wedding rings, in March this year I ordered my bridesmaid dresses and my veil and booked my kilts and I am now working on making my invites. We have spaced everything out and I am so not stressed at all about anything.
Doing things this way gives you plenty of time to plan and research and get exactly what you want xx

Fortunately for us everyone was really excited from day one and we booked 2 years in advance. Soon after booking we took our parents to our venue to show them round and sat out in the grounds having tea and coffee. It was really nice to share it with them and I think definitely added to the excitement for them. Maybe you could do that? xx

Congrats on booking your venue. Ours has been a bit weird - we started booking things 18months in advance and people said oh thats ages away but in the next breath oh you have lots to do and it'll go really fast so you better start doing stuff.
If you do book things now, you might be able to get this years prices because they do go up year on year. X

you can do everything now if you want. I booked for Oct 2017 and have started thinking about invites. I am making my own but this will take a while so if I start early I may have them done in 2 years :)

I would say lots of research is the main thing now. It's really exciting booking your venue and date, however far in advance it is, and I think people don't always realise what a big deal that is and how far in advance it needs to be done. I would certainly start thinking about dresses, as it can take a long time to find out what really suits you, but don't commit yet. Also plan the finances, and start playing around with ideas for themes and colours. The more ideas you come up with now the easier the planning will be when you get to the point where you need to be making decisions.

We set our date just over 2 years in advance. Once we'd paid the deposit on the venue we booked our photographer. We booked him in June 2013 and he said at the time that he was already getting enquiries for 2015! We also got our DJ and caterers sorted out. P1nt3r3st became my new best friend :) Lots of ideas!

Congratulations on your engagement and managing to find a venue. I get married in October and still get people saying you have plenty of time haha. Mainly h2b family. Still waiting for them to sort out flights and for bridesmaids mum to order her dress. So no matter how long or soon it is people will still say you have plenty of time x
