    Hiya,

2nd discussion in two days but this is something I have been meaning to do for ages now. I had a look and I don't think this topic has been covered in a while.

Basically, I need to send out some save the dates for the obvious reason, but also because we may be able to save our guests some money on accommodation by making some group bookings, and the earlier we do this, the more money we can save them. Therefore, I need to find out who needs rooms.

However I do have a couple of questions:

    - In order to save money, I am thinking of sending out emails to my guests. Has anyone done this before? And would it be a good idea to set up a new email address to do this?

    - There are some people on my gust list who will definitely only be invited to the evening, namely my cousins, because the cost of catering would be to high otherwise as my family is huge! Is it worth mentioning what part of the day they are invited to in the save the date or not though? Or should I send them a save the date at all? As I don't want to send a save the date and have someone think they are invited to the actual wedding, and then realise later on that they are only invited to the evening...

    Thanks for any help.

I think sending emails out is a good idea - won't cost you a penny and most people will have access to email. It might be tricky with the older generation i.e. grandparents, so maybe you could do paper invites for those who don't have email access? I like the idea of making a dedicated email address for the purpose as well - you could also use that email address for all your other wedding bits such as emailing suppliers, receiving confirmation emails etc. You might also find you get quicker RSVPs if people can just respond at the click of a button.

Some people send "save the evenings" to their evening guests rather than save the dates. This would ensure that there is no confusion over which part of the day they are invited to. We didn't send save the dates in the end because we're having a relatively small wedding so everyone already knew we had booked and when for, but if we were to send out save the dates we wouldn't have bothered with sending anything to the evening guests. I think evening invitations are sufficient enough xx

If you know who it is that is day and who is evening when you send an email, just say save the date for day or evening event, also might be worth setting up a n ew email, that way nobody gets missed by mistake amongst your other emails.

It's a good idea, saves so much money and most people will use email.

We have set up a joint email address that we will be using for RSVP's so maybe you could do the same and send save the dates from it? x

I sent out My Invitation as emails and I just told my guests verbally to STD and been banging on about it since so they don't forget!! You can save the email favourite it so you don't loose the invite thy can print it themselves and also cost effective and you can keep on your computer or hard drive for years to come instead of your invite being thrown in the bin as the wedding has come and gone Xxx

I don't know why I didn't think of a 'Save the Evening'! That's a good idea, I'll send some of them to those I know are definitely on our evening list. The day list is pretty much set, however I may invite a few more to the evening, undecided as yet. Most people have already had a verbal save the date, and I would be happy to leave it at that and send out the invitations a little earlier, but then we also want to make sure that people can get rooms at a good price since a number of our guests will have to travel long distance to come.

Invitations by email is something I hadn't thought of, was planning on going to chase of paper and making some rustic looking ones, but that may be an idea if we run short of money. Definitely going to consider asking guests to RSVP by email, although for the elder generation (especially my Nan who thinks the internet will delete everything on her computer), I'll send invitations with a postal RSVP inside.

Thanks for the tips! :-) xx

Emails are a good idea as people tend to reply faster to them
