What are people's thoughts on a NYE wedding? I hadn't really given it much thought but i saw an offer for a venue on NYE and i just fell in love with teh idea but have had mixed reviews amongst friends and family! what do to think would be the benefits and pitfalls of having my wedding on this date on any given year?

    xx

We were planning for 31.12.16 but brought it forward to this August.. Pros - lovely celebrating the new year in as a married couple, great celebrations etc. etc. But downside is that family and friends may want to celebrate elsewhere/have annual normal plans elsewhere on NYE or NYD x

It is a lovely idea however pinning family and friends down may be the hard part. I'd speak to your family friend see how they feel about it and take it from there. Last thing you want us for people to not be able to attend. X

we're all booked for New years eve, just give people plenty of notice, we will be sending out STD's with xmas cards the year before, although most of our families already know the date and think it's a great idea. just be wary we are having topay over the odd's in some areas (especially entertainment) because of the date but we have been able to ballance this out by calling in favours and cutting costs in other ares (plus with 3 years saving it's not so bad).
Personally I think its a great idea (obviously) 1- he will never forget your anaversary 2-New years eve is about celebrating with your nearest and dearest anyway so why not make it extra special and 3- I love that NY is about saying goodbye to the old and welcoming the new just as a marriage is!!

    thanks for your replies everyone!

Was looking at new years eve 2017 - i know it seems like forever away but that gives me lots of time for saving and planning! and hoping that no one will have an excuse not to come as they will have known about it for a long time!

I didn't think about the entertainment being over the odds priced! something to think about! would love a swing band - maybe i can get a disount if i book early??

    xx

I'm also 31.12.17. I have found booking early doesn't really help with the date I have inquired with a few different things and the general response I get is "as it is New Years Eve the price will be £x" which makes it clear they are not willing to bargain with you. Fully your decision if you want to book a band early on but this is the one thing I am personally holding off on, growing up in the music industry I am all too aware that small time musicians aren't around for long and I am therefore unwilling to pay a deposit on a band/musician who may not be playing in 3 years time if you get what I mean.
If you don't mind me asking what sort of budget are you playing with?

I'm looking at about 10,000 - to be honest I'd like it to be less, a lot less but everywhere is quite expensive by me. My partner is the one that wants the fairytale and I'm not too fussed! That's the amount for the whole day - not including attire. Just going to save as much as we can!

That's a nice amount to work with especially if your getting a deal on the venue, definitely do-able!!

i'm so close to booking a venue!! £10,500 for 75 day guests and 120 evening with a 4 course meal for day guests and drinks and buffet and glass of champagne at midnight for evening guests - that's with 8 complimentary rooms to stay including a bridal suite. its for NYE 2017.

it seems like forever away but i hope it comes around quick!!

yes, i'm going to give them a call too as i've just had a look online and it says about not being able to cover weddings two years or more in the future.

we can't help that we are hyper organised! haha

it is a one off payment?

Does your venue include entertainment and decoration in that? If not will you have money to spare to cover the extra's not included in your venue? Don't want to rain on your parade because it does sound like an amazing deal but just want to gently remind you that you will probably be looking an extra £1k-£2k on top of your venue cost to cover registrar, flowers, photographer, entertainment, transport (if needed), stationary, hair and make-up and anything else I have forgotten. I'm sure you've got this covered just wanted to say just in case xx
