Nothing at all! I'm not a Christian and just think if you want to give something up then you can do at any time of the year.. as most people tend to do it for health/dieting reasons rather than religious reasons x

Last yr I gave up tea as I knew it would be a struggle. I was an arsey mare for the whole of lent and now I wake up to a cup of tea every morning do I get my fix x
This year I'm thinking sweets. They are my number 2 happy fix
Just to add I am a Christian and like to pick something that's tough.

I don't understand why people respond to posts when they have nothing to say?

i dont think to have to be religious to give something up ( how many people have pancakes today without knowing the religous resons !!) .... use it more as 40 days to kick start a diet .. or spur you on to giving up smoking ..
my daughter is giving up making excuses not to exercise ... yes she could have done it at any time but as she says it is a set time to focus on
I think it's a good time to start something new like a diet or like lala's daughter a kick start for exercising.
The other big time to do it is New Years, but actually-if you try and start something at New years you are more than likely heading for a fail as for a start people still tend to be celebrating on new years day, so really not the best day to start a diet and also after all the celebrating and over indulgence I think suddenly saying ''I'm stopping it all now'' is very hard and your much more likely to give up.
Going back to lent... I haven't given up anything this year, in general I'm trying to be more healthy and exercise more (not happened this week with various things on) but I want to lose half a stone by Easter.... really hoping I can do it as Easter seems to be getting closer and closer now :/

Lala live that post. I know people who don't know it's Shrove Tuesday and think that it is pancake day..
Day one without my sugar fix :)

I had pancakes without knowing the religious background of the day.. same as I celebrate Christmas without fully understanding the religious background of it (obviously I know the general story lol).
All for people giving up something for lent if they are not religious, just not something that bothers me personally. If I wanted to give something up, kick start a diet, exercise more or whatever I would do so at any other time of the year, without waiting for a particular 'milestone' x
