    ~deep breath~

Okay, figured it was about time I get this thing started (and what better way to come back after an unplanned break?), so here we go...

    - Chosen our venue who are holding a date for us (for two weeks from Tues just gone), and if I don't oversleep I'm planning to be on the 'phone to the registrars tomorrow (Monday) to check if they've still got a slot at the time we want. Gone fairly local as anywhere too far from home was in danger of taking us well outside our budget! Link to venue site on my profile.

    - Had a home visit from a jeweller we met at a fair back in October; picked our rings - palladium with a Celtic pattern on the outside and an inscription in Irish Gaelic on the inside.

    - I've pretty much picked my dress (or at least narrowed it done to a couple!), and another task for this week is to email the vendor to arrange an appointment to go down and try on samples and discuss colour options - I'm not having a white dress, it's not me at all! - and see if she'll also do J's groomwear, or can direct us to someone who can.

So, now we just have to confirm date and time with the registrars, get that to the venue, then we can discuss decorations, food, etc.

...And also figure out how we're going to double our current savings to be able to afford all this; looks like I'm gonna have to step up my jobsearch, and maybe J will have to as well - bank hours (basically a zero-hours contract) at our current jobs are not getting us anywhere near the shifts (and by extension, payslips) we were hoping for!

We are planning to do as much as possible ourselves to keep costs down:
-- I'm going to design our invites and then get quotes from printers
-- J's mum is happy to offer her "amateur" (her words) flower-arranging skills to do that bit
-- A friend of J's has offered a potential entertainment option
-- and as much else as comes up that we think "yup, we can do that!"

All in all, lots to do; all while fighting my mother's/nan's/younger sister's negativity about the whole thing, my older sister's alternating over-enthusiasm/worry-mongering, and my own anxiety issues resurfacing after 13 years (I suffered after the death of my maternal grandfather and the breakdown of my parents' marriage, which all happened within the 6-8 months before my 15th birthday...)

    Should be easy, right? ...Right?

It sounds like you've got most things under control in theory, now to put it in to practice and in no time you'll be enjoying your special day. Good luck!!!!

    Thanks ladies!

Well, registrars' 'phone was busy every time I tried to ring, will try again tomorrow - they implied when I rang last week that the 1.30 slots are more popular than midday (one of which we're hoping to grab), so there's still a chance!

If I can just knock the anxiety on the head, things will be fine; at least I know what to look for *before* I have a panic attack, J has my back anyway, and his parents have been so supportive; especially his mum - I feel like such an anomaly at times, getting on with my future mil so well while not being able to stand my own mother...

    Right, well; what a week!

    - Deposit paid and booking form sent back to the venue.

    - We're in the system now for the registrars - when the paperwork came through they've somehow spelled J's surname wrong (I quite clearly said 'O', not 'A'), but we figure we can fix that when we go up for an appointment.
But anyway, we have our date and time; 12noon on the 18th of June 2016 - I'm so happy!

    - Jeweller emailed us a mock-up of how our rings should look, along with a quote of the price (much lower than we thought!) and reassuring us that the inscription inside will be easy.

    - We've come up with an idea for table names using famous battles of England & Europe in the Middle Ages (Crecy, Poitiers, Hastings, Lincoln, etc.) as there are quite a lot that we know of, and putting a little info about the battles on the reverse of the card - a little map, who fought on what side, stuff like that.
