Hi everyone this is just a post out of curiosity. I'm in n.ireland and the tradition here is a full wedding breakfast but I've heard of people in other parts of the uk having afternoon tea, buffets etc. what is everyone having? For ours we will be having vegetable soup followed by chicken & ham vol u vent. Then a choice of Turkey & ham or roast beef with all the trimmings. Then a choice of hot chocolate pudding with ice cream or trifle with tea or coffee. For our evening buffet we are having sausage baps, bacon baps and chips and tea or coffee and wedding cake. I don't think anyone will go hungry!! Lol

Hi Danielle, we're having a choice of 3 starters, mains and deserts in the day so people can choose on the day then hog roast for evening buffet... I think dependant on theme or if you're not a 3 course meal person something else would be better for you but I like a good 3 course meal haha xx

Hi Gemma I love the sound of the hog roast!! Great idea. Yes I do like a sit down meal too but it's so expensive. I love the idea of people having afternoon tea etc it sounds great. But then I'm
Assuming their day would start later? My service is at 1pm and I'd prefer it earlier to get as long out if the day as possible as I'm
Sure it will just fly by!!x

I think today, it's not more about tradition, but more what the couple want.

We are having a sit down three course wedding breakfast and then a buffet in the evening.

I think the menus are likely to change by the time our wedding comes around as our venue is heavily improving their cooking at the moment and are looking for a rosette chef etc etc... But we had decided on risotto, a chicken dish and then a trio of deserts as we thought that would be the safest option to suit everyone. Not looking into it too much at the mo though as I think the menu will definitely change.

We're having a 3 course meal with a choice of 2 dishes for each course so everyone will be picking what they want from our chosen menu when they reply to the invites. A friend is having afternoon tea at her wedding although we are just going to the evening so not totally sure how it will work but who doesnt love a good scone with jam and cream! I've also heard of people doing fish and chip vans. X

3 course meals can be so expensive I look at quite a few places and our was the cheapest but with just as nice and quality food, with a choice so really for me if was a no brainer I think EmmaG 's idea is good having canapés, afternoon tea then buffet earlier and it's still early in the day. I think it's all personal choice but I do like how you can have so many different choices now a days x

We're having a 3 course sit down meal.

Choice of chicken liver terrine or smoked salmon for starters.

Chicken and asparagus or pork and apple for mains.

And a Chou pastry swan in a chocolate 'loch' for afters.

Tea and coffee served with tablet too.

We've got an evening buffet too but as we're not having any additional guests in the evening it's just sandwiches and sausage rolls.

We had a full wedding breakfast for full-day guests. Starter was a goat's cheese and onion tartlet, main course was duck, and the pudding was a chocolate marquiss. We also had unlimited red and white wine, and tea or coffee with small welsh cakes. For the evening do we had a buffet.

We are doing a passed canapés first:
Smoked salmon and cream cheese on mini bagels
    Parmesan Risotto Balls
Seared Wasabi beef with ginger on watermelon cubes
    Smoked Salmon
Mini Quails Egg Royale- brioche, smoked salmon, quails eggs, and hollandaise

We are doing a 2 course sit down (the dessert broke our budget unfortunately but we're going to use our cake as the dessert course!)

    Starter:
Fresh fig, caramelised red onion and goats cheese tartin, petit herbb & leaf salad, balsamic caramel

    Main:
Corn fed chicken stuffed with chestnut mushrooms, ricotta cheese and roasted garlic, white and wild rice pilaf, asparagus, creamy sage sauce

Followed by tea, coffee, and chocolate truffles

    Followed by cake (yum!!!)

For the evening we are doing passed food:
    Bacon butties
Fish and Chips in paper cones

We are also going to have a Dessert and Crisps Table:
Bags of English crisps (for the Americans coming)
    Cake pops
    Biscuits
    Cupcakes

Phew… Somehow I was worried before we didn't have enough food.. I don't think that is the case!

Everything sounds great!! I love the sound of the canapés but budget just won't strech that far!! Usually when we go to a wedding we go get something small to eat after the church before going to the hotel to keep us going until dinner! I had initially thought of just having soup as a starter to keep costs down but our hotel is 5 course or nothing!! Although the it was originally supposed to be choice of starters also and I got them to agree to one starter (vol u vent) to keep costs down a little. Surprisingly for our buffet it was the same price to go with the butties and chips as having sandwiches sausage rolls etc. we are also having a candy cart and will be putting little bags on the place setting saying fill me up at the candy cart so will double up as favours!

We're using a local supplier through our venue called Cairn'o'Mohr who will supply a non alcoholic drink during canapes/cocktail hour.

Then from the same supplier wine/cider and fruit juice on the tables during meal.

    Evening. Guests buy their own.

We're buying the drinks on a buy and return bases so whatever we don't use will be refunded to us.

We are doing cava during canapés, and then white/red on the tables, and cava for toasts. We're going to do an open bar for the evening, but we're limiting to wine, beer, cava, vodka drinks, rum drinks, and our special cocktail which is a mojito. So many people coming from the states, I just felt we couldn't ask them to buy drinks.

That said, its one of the things we've not paid for yet so we can always change to cash bar if the budget gets too tight come May

We had a selection of Chinese style/oriental style canapés with the welcome drinks.

    Course wedding breakfast:
Lobster bisque for starters, veggie option starter which was some veggie terrine
Chicken stuffed with mushroom mousse and saffron sauce, veggie option main also offered
    Chocolate mousse dessert for everyone

My dad and I had a different main though because I wanted pork wellington and my dad preferred it too, we also had a pear frangipane tart for dessert, again just because I preferred it. Brides prerogative lol.

Evening buffet was hog roast with so many sides, I didn't have any of it because I just couldn't eat much all day. Our wedding cake was also served during the evening buffet.

    Hello all

Starting with various canapés and prosecco

Then having a 3 course sit down meal, haven't narrowed down my selection yet, the menu selectors I was given by the venue are great but we get to make 2 choices and a vegetarian choice and there are 6 options on each course, going to be hard to narrow it down!

Our evening buffet is going to be traditional - Scottish Stovies and Oatcakes and wedding cake!

Once we narrow it down we will be going to try the whole menu we pick! and I am looking forward to that xx

We are getting married at 3pm and after a lot of umming and ahhhing we are having a BBQ for the 'day' guests and then a small buffet in the evening.

People will be offered a bottle of Budwe1ser, a glass of pure orange or a glass of champagne on arrival, and a glass of champers for the toast.
We are also providing wine on the tables but are currently looking in to corkage costs as our alcohol package was somewhat extortionate!

Although I enjoy having a nice sit down meal on occasion, we are just not that kind of couple and really want a relaxed day. I hate feeling rushed and stressing so looking forward to a fairly relaxed day (hopefully!!) x

If we were going to pay for bottles of wine instead of per glass, how many bottles do you think we'd need for a table of 8?

Trying to work out what will work out better for us money wise.

Also do most venues offer a buy back drinks service, as we wouldn't know how many people were drinking what?

Ooooh a bbq sounds like a lot of fun!! Beximo86 I love the idea of bottle of bud! We are also going to buy our own wine/champers and pay for corkage as it works out a lot more although the I'd say we will end up with a lot of left over wine. Donna I'm not sure about hotels doing a buy back service. I don't think ours does anyway as the wine they supply is a lot more expensive than the wine we will be buying! Also u usually get 4 glasses of wine from a bottle not very big glasses though so it depends if you want to do one glass or two. I personally think its better to get the waiting staff to pour the wine instead of leaving on tables that way it's fair that everyone gets the same amount but that's just my personal choice. X

we are having a 3 course meal, we have to narrow it down to one selection for each course(except for vegetarians) as its too expensive to offer guest a choice. ours is:

Starter: Vegetable soup with herb croutons or
cheese and onion tart with tomato chutney

Main: Fillet of salmon with a prawn and chive cream sauce or
Roast chicken with a bacon and rosemary sauce and stuffing or
puff pastry parcel filled with cherry tomato, broccoli and mozzarella

    Dessert: Baked lemon cheesecake or
cream filled profiteroles with a duo of chocolate and toffee sauce.

we also have a buffet for evening guests

I'm leaving little bags in each place setting saying fill me up at the candy cart so it doubles up as favours! We will be having ours after dinner so everyone can go get their sweeties whilst waiting for band to set up. However my sister got married a few years ago and had her candy cart on arrival which was nice also as it can be a long wait until dinner

That's a really good idea, if only I had thought about this before, I have just designed and as we speak are getting the favour boxes printed, mind you it's mainly to make the table look pretty than to want to give favours lol!

Think I may do it as the evening guests arrive as it means they can have some too! Of decisions decisions, it's crazy everything has to be thought out to the most tiniest detail doesn't it.
