We're just staying in, probably have a bit of a nicer meal than usual and are buying each other cards but that's it. I don't think its an entire waste of money but you should show your love for each other every day of the year.. Expensive gifts on Valentine's day isn't important to me. It's not much of a celebration for us as we have our anniversary just a few weeks later so that's a more important event for us to celebrate our relationship :)

We are going to get out usual m&s dine in £20 valentines deal and stay in. I usually decorate the table and buy him some small bits. More just for fun than taking it seriously!

We have a date day every 4 weeks and also go out on Birthdays, our Anniversary and Valentines Day. We don't buy each other gifts, just give cards to each other although OH may buy me some flowers. We usually go out for a meal. This year we are going to an italian restaurant :)

We don't usually bother with valentines now. My OH bought me a diamond ring for our first valentines day but don't think we've bothered since. I have bought a card and a teddy from our LO to give to OH but that's all
We don't usually bother, although last year my fiancé bought some bits for my son to give to me (just some chocolates)
This year we are talking about doing something, not making a massive deal out of it but just something little. Maybe going out or just getting a take-away in. I've bought him a card (as this time next year I won't be able to buy a fiancé card). Undecided on whether to get him a little gift or not, his birthday is on the 18th so I already have quite a few Birthday presents for him. I might buy something else as a present, or buy him another big thing for his Birthday and give him one of the smaller presents for valentines day.
We need to check if his parents are coming up or not as well, as they're visiting one weekend in Feb but haven't confirmed when yet. As obviously we'll need to book somewhere if we are going out, even if they come we'll need to book somewhere as we like going out for a meal when they're up here.

We usually stay in and cook a nicer meal than usual or get a takeaway for a treat, we get each other cards and a few little presents but this year with wedding etc we are just getting cards. Our anniversary is exactly a month later so we just go out for that instead as it means more to us :) x

We don't normally go out, but I have 9 vases, as he's bought me a single stem rose every year we've been together, and had it delivered to work/home. I usually cook something a bit special and we open a bottle of wine or two and snuggle up.

To us Valentine's Day is a commercialised piece of nonsense (don't nean to offend anyone it's each to their own) we do buy a card for one another but that's it, we can eat at our favourite restaurants the weekend before or after at half the price lol (I sound like such a Scrooge).
Oh's version is we don't need to tell one another we love them on a 'special day' as we already know that we live each other.

Lots of places around here do deals on valentines day anyway-so we wouldn't be spending more to eat out.
The only place we might spend more would be if we ate at our wedding venue, but although it costs more then a normal weekend they do put a special meal on for it.
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
When we went to our venue last year they had a deal so we ended up spending less than if we went out any other time. It was £50 for the both of us for three courses plus a glass of bubbly.

We've never really celebrated V day tbh as we always make more of our anniversaries, one of which is tomorrow :) however this year, we are actually making the effort on V day because it's my OH's 21st on the 17th Feb so we have a big meal out with her family on the 13th, us going to a film then home for a meal on the 14th then off to give notice and see Katherine Jenkins on the 17th for her birthday.... I think we will be pretty comatose by the end of all that!!

I love VD. Don't think we need to spend loads of money on gifts, just some chocs, or something I know he will like. I'm really sad we're not together this year. Planning to get him a card online, since it takes 3 weeks for it to be delivered if I send it from here. I miss him sooo much :(

We never spend much on gifts either, we just get token gifts for each other.

Neither of us are into valentines, personally we feel it's just a commercial event to make money and make single people feel rubbish about being single. Then all the over inflated set menus you get in restaurants if you can get a table!
This year, just by chance because it's the best time for us with time off work we're actually away for that whole weekend in Ch@mpn3y5 but it's just because we need a break and it just happens to fall on the day/weekend.
We don't need valentines day to let each other know we love each other. We show it every day.

We just generally do token gifts for eachother, however 2012-2013 was a really tough year for us. H2B broke the engagement off & early 2013 his engagement ring came off my hand & snapped clean in half. A mutual friend mentioned it was a clear sign the ring was on the wrong person & so I decided it was about time i got this show on the road & put alot of effort into making a nice dinner & poem & proposed to him on valentines day... if you recall.... it worked a treat & so this year I want to do something special as it will be our last valentines day before we are finally (after 8 years) are husband & wife.... only im not entirely sure what to do.... we have a fairly busy february this year.... we have valentines, then the following weekend is our sten party, the following weekend is our eldests birthday.... its going to be quite hectic to say the least!
Find out who you are & do it on purpose!

Fiancé has been talking about booking a hotel for valentines day :D
I hope he hasn't just talked it up so he can change his mind though, I don't want to keep hassling him in case he's decided he'll surprise me with it... but he's never surprised me with anything like that before (although maybe that's why he's mentioned it as he wanted to gage my response before booking?)

Nice Donna, mine would say he has no time to organise anything, yet has Internet connection in the evening direr at home or when away so really no excuse. Oh well, we shall see what comes of it. Probs be a takeaway in doors.

I imagine that's what I'll end up with, but going to stay quiet on it and see if anything happens... if he is planning on doing it I don't want to keep hassling him and feel like I've taken the surprise away from him if that makes sense. But deep down I think he's just pretty useless at sorting these things and will just not get round to it. He decided last year he'd take me out but left it too late so couldn't get anything booked.

Yep, I shall give mine a chance and see what he comes up with.
I've just seen on the book of a place nearby advertising a Valentine's night meal. Glass of prosecco on arrival, three course meal, £45 per person!!!!!!!! Last year at our venue we had the same for £50 per couple. Just goes to show that you don't have to over inflate prices for a good meal. Was the best meal we've had as well.

Mine has never even done that, I've booked everything we do... I was laughing actually as for some reason when I've booked holidays I always put him as the lead passenger, I said today I don't know why as I have to sort everything out for it.
Although the one time I put me as the lead, we went to Bruges on the ferry and when we collected our boarding passes-or whatever they call them, they'd put all his details on top!!! I said how rude it was, as I was the lead passenger, they were clearly being very sexist.
CommentAuthorDonnaH39
I'm impressed he's looking at the rooms, as usually he would be saying ''fayre and square have an offer on and I can get a voucher as well''
But he's been looking at 5 course meal and spa packages.... I really hope he books it otherwise I'll be very disappointed now.

We don't usually make a big deal out of it. I feel that restaurants see it as a chance to hike up their prices and take advantage of people tbh! This year we have booked afternoon tea on the Sunday at the place I went to with my best friend at the beginning of this month as it was superb.

Also overhead him on the phone to his dad saying something like 'sorry couldn't talk much because Lauren was around'....

This will be our first married Valentine's Day. We always do something, but at home. I rarely like set menus in restaurants, and get annoyed that businesses use it as an excuse to bump prices up.
We usually put lots of candles out, and decorate the dining room table and have a candlelit 3 course meal. We buy each other gifts too (not expensive). Will probably do the same this year too.
It's also my birthday the week before, so we usually go away for a European mini break, and have a blow out then.

We'll probably treat ourselves to a really nice meal out. It's not the kind of thing we'd spend money on often so it's nice to do. We do go out on a Friday night generally but only to the local Weathsp00ns.
