Hi guys, I know this is nothing to do with weddings but you guys have always been really good with advice so you were my first thought to ask for help. Well as some of you may know me and h2b are expecting our 2nd baby in May. I'm now 17+3 weeks pregnant and I have never met my midwife. When I went for my booking appointment they forgot I was coming and had to squeeze me in so I ended up seeing someone else. I haven't heard anything from her at all and never got my 15 week ante-natal appointment. Now at my 12 week scan I was told I have anti-bodies which are likely to cause complications as well as being ill throughout my pregnancy and this still has not prompted her to get in touch. I have no contact details for her so had to put a complaint into the doctors hoping this would resolve something but still I hear nothing. Anyway what I'm wondering is, it is possible to request a new midwife? I feel no confidence in her what so ever. Oh and my maid of honour is also pregant (due in March) with the same midwife and only met her once.

Any advice would be great guys. TIA

    xxx

I'm sure you can! I know a friend of mine could not stand her midwife as she was very rude and opinionated and pretty useless and she complained and I'm sure she got someone else. At the end of the day hun, if your upset with it and it's causing you stress then definitely request someone else. Yours and baby's health is priority xx hope you get it sorted xx

Not sure how it works with you, this is our routine

    8/40 booking visit,
    12/40 dating scan
16/40 midwife appointment, this needs to be booked by the woman.
    20/40 anomaly scan
24/40 midwife appointment, normally made at the 16/40 appointment, then each appointment is with the midwife unless you have consultant appointment.

As for the antibodies, do you know what they are? This may be more important when you go into hospital to either have the baby or anything else dependant on what they are.

You can either contact your GP surgery like you have or contact the maternity unit who can pass a message onto the community midwife.

If you need any help then just shout, I am a Midwife,

Yes you can ask for a different midwife its your right. If you didn't like your gp you wouldn't see them again would you so midwives are no different.

Every health care professional has a duty of care and if you feel your not getting that then ask for a new one

thanks everyone i finally got to see my midwife two days ago although had to call her and give her a few choice words... i managed to make an appointment to see her at my GP surgery just for her to cancel it and go home but she didnt even tell me she cancelled it so i was sat in the reception for an hour before anyone told me needless to say i was livid so called her and she agreed to come do the appointment at home... she turned up 30 minutes late and spent most of the time talking about how unorganised she's been since she came back from her holiday 2 months ago this woman really is useless... i tried to change midwives but apparently there is a shortage in our area and there's no one else available xx
