We are getting really nervous about our church :( it's not a registered venue for same sex couples yet but they have assured us that it would be way for our wedding but they've only just got to the 'getting approved by the committee' stage? We booked the church 4 months ago now and we are still no further ahead really. I've emailed to find out what's going on again. The registry office has a 3 month lead time for appointments to give notice and we get married in a popular month (next August) so we are starting to get quite twitchy! As some of you know, it was one hell of a journey to get to this point with a church so we really don't want get to the point where we won't be able to get married there as that will devastate us following all the upset from before :( what do we do?? We don't have any spare cash for somewhere else either! We are just really worried and could do with some reassurance.....

So you have about six months limit to sort the register out, right? Isn't it time enough for the church to sort it out? Have they told you any expected date to have everything ready? I don't know exactly what you could do, but if you're not confident and you think it won't be time enough, I would suggest you to try to find somewhere else. I know you said that you don't have spare cash, but I can't imagine changing my wedding because of anything. What really matters is that you get married :)

Yes but it's already been 4 months since we booked and nothing has got any further forward so our worry is what happens if they don't get it sorted..

Can you have a meeting with them to discuss how it is going and if they are still going to be ready for your date?

I don't know much about church weddings or how it works but that would be my first instinct :)

If they guaranteed they would be ready then the money you have already paid towards it should be given back if they aren't ready. Just my opinion like. I don't know much of church weddings either, so not 100% sure how it works.

We didn't have to pay a deposit as it's a relaxed church and we pay them next year sometime.

Meeting is difficult because they are 4hrs drive away which is why I emailed them again but everytime it's 'progressing well' or they are sorting it. We just don't need this :(

It depends on how their church make decisions really. If it is an independent church that doesn't rely on a wider governing body for permission, then it may well be that approval by committee is the last step before they put in their application. Could you ask for a detailed breakdown of the steps that have to be taken? I don't know anything about how venues actually get licenced, but if they already offer civil partnerships and heterosexual marriages I wouldn't have thought that getting a licence to perform same sex marriages would be a problem from the official point of view.
